GENERAL INFORMATION

Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political and non religious humanitarian NGO. Its objective is to provide a comprehensive response, in line with humanitarian principles and applying both needs based and rights based approaches, to conflict affected populations. PU-AMI promotes humanitarian access and dialogue with all components of the civil society and reinforces the capacity of each vulnerable community (refugees, vulnerable host community) to become self-reliant and resilient, by responding to immediate needs and strengthening their socio-economic empowerment. PU-AMI in Lebanon has been implementing emergency and recovery projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, in Shelter Rehabilitation, Health, Protection and in Livelihood Recovery sectors. In four regions, namely the Akkar district, Tripoli district in North Governorate, Beirut and Mount Lebanon Governorates, and Saida district in the South Governorate.

MADAD 2 PROJECT

The action is a response to the European Union Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian Crisis’ (Madad) overall objective to respond to the “needs of refugees from Syria in neighboring countries, as well as of the communities hosting the refugees and their administrations, in particular with regards to resilience and early recovery”. The Action is aligned with the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (2017-2020) strategic objectives to: (1) Ensure protection of vulnerable populations; (2) Provide immediate assistance to vulnerable populations; (3) Support service provision through national systems and; (4) Reinforce Lebanon’s economic, social, and environmental stability. The improvement of access to quality primary health care services in areas affected by displacement aims to ensure that local communities and refugees are able to receive critical health and mental health services.

Building on the accomplishments, findings, and lessons learned from the REBAHS Action, over the course of the proposed Action, International Medical Corps (IMC) and Première Urgence-Aide Médicale Internationale (PUI)  continued its partnership to further improve access to quality primary health care, community health, mental health services, and specialized services for persons with disability for Syrian refugees and other vulnerable populations in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, Akkar, Tripoli, Bekaa, and South.

Currently, PU-AMI’s Health Department is acting in North, South, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon by supporting PHCCs to increase accessibility of refugees and their host communities to primary healthcare, improve quality of health care provided, reach out to communities through community health activities, and provide specialized services to Persons with Disabilities (Inclusion programme).
