Soins Infirmiers et Development Communautaire (SIDC), Lebanese Down syndrome Association (LDSA), and Justice Without Frontiers (JWF) are implementing a 6-month project funded by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) for Inclusive Employment entitled “Identify, Interpret, and Respond”. The overall objectives of the action are 1) promoting a non-discriminatory inclusive work environment in the private sector and 2) advocating for an amendment of the Lebanese labour law towards better inclusion and protection of marginalized groups in the labour market.
In order to achieve the first objective, one of the activities involves developing a code of practice to eliminate discrimination in employment.
Many policies exist to eliminate discrimination in its different forms whether it pertains to people with disabilities or to sexual harassment, stigmatization or even discriminating against women within the workplace. The coalition aims to hire a policy specialist to unify and further develop the policies into one main master policy to be adopted by the private sector on inclusion and the need to eliminate discrimination in employment in all of its stages.
Prior to this activity, a checklist was created where the organizations took on a self-audit in inclusion and enforcement of equal opportunities. The checklist was piloted on ten private sector employees and acted as an audit mechanism for the organisations/establishments.
The code of practice will include the self-audit checklist which will act as a supportive tool to the implementation of the non-discriminatory code of practice in the private sector.
