Our Team
To reduce public health risks and contribute to a life with dignity for Syrian refugees in Lebanon through the construction of water, sanitation and hygiene facilities for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
Job Purpose
This position will be part of an integrated Humanitarian programme in the Bekaa Valley. The WASH component will include both public health engineering and public health promotion activities with the aim of providing comprehensive WASH assistance to vulnerable persons. This position, primarily being field-based with daily field visits, will work in informal tented settlements and host communities on the implementation and monitoring of public health engineering activities through community engagement approaches and alignment with other public health and protection activities.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Implementation
- To work with partners and contractors on assigned tasks as set by the PHE Officer a/o PHE Senior Officer.
- To follow up and monitor workers at the work site and ensure all the construction or rehabilitation of infrastructure and water and sanitation facilities are in accordance to technical specification and method statements.
- Producing Bill of Quantity and CAD drawings according to specifications.
- To follow the works implemented through daily site visits
- To report regularly, verbally and in writing to the PHE Officer a/o PHE Senior Officer
- Support the PHE officer to establish systems and controls for daily site checks and documentation.
- Create and maintain a good relationship with partners, service providers and contractors.
- To produce non-conformance reports, establish a database and contribute to the close out of non-conformance.
- With the guidance of the PHE Officer ensure that health and safety monitoring is incorporated into all daily site supervision activities.
- With the guidance of the PHE officer and gender advisor, to put in place clear mechanisms that enable women to meaningfully participate in decision making around public health engineering issues
- Responsible for keeping a log of all 'lessons learnt" during the project.
- Ensure a photographic diary is maintained.
Coordination
- As requested, participate in WaSH field-based meetings with other stakeholders.
- Actively participate in weekly team meetings.
- Collect and report community level programme information.

Essential - Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Competencies
- 1 year of relevant experience or is a student of engineering.
- Diplomacy, tact and administrative skills to work with people
- Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations
- Knowledge in engineering activity, BoQ and drawing
- Good written and spoken English and spoken Arabic
Desirable
- Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering student or degree qualified (or other relevant qualification). Experience could substitute for a formal qualification, but not vice versa
