Social Worker/Case-Manager - Beirut

Main objective:        Contribute to the protection and improvement of the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of the people affected by the Beirut Blast including outreach activities

Context of intervention :

 

Following the Beirut blast, MdM is developing an MHPSS response including outreach activities to provide onsite MHPSS interventions to person affected by the blast, internal referral to MdM CMHC or helpline and referral to stakeholders. In addition MdM has also identified a need for increasing awareness about COVID19 mitigation measures.

 

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in outreach activities within the surrounding communities
  • Properly assess and refer people in need of mental health support/treatment to specialized services
  • Provide case-management to people, including through outreach activities
  • Provide appropriate psycho-social support to the persons enrolled in the project.
  • Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team for the implementation of all MHPSS activities.
  • Provide awareness sessions to the persons in the area of intervention including informal activities

 

Main responsibilities and activities of the Social Worker can change according to the context, the organization of the work and to the composition of the team.

 

 

Main activities:

 

  1. Provide case-management in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assess the needs of people met during outreach activities
  • Provide proper case-management and regular follow-up to the people enrolled in the project.
  • Provide psychosocial support, including home-visits and psychoeducation to people enrolled in the project or to their family when needed.
  • Work in collaboration with the therapist to develop individualized intervention plans and the best care plan, taking into consideration the background context of the community.
  • If necessary, refer people in need of mental health support/treatment to specialized services
  • Participate to case discussions with the multidisciplinary team, including psychotherapists, other case managers, nurse and the program manager.
  • Participate in the creation of tools for MHPSS intervention.
  • Coordinate with psychiatrists for the patients under psychotropic medications.
  • Commit to regular clinical documentation of all activities.

 

  1. Participate in MHPSS activities
  • Refer people when needed, utilizing the referral system in place.
  • Coordinate with PHCC, hospital and any other relevant stakeholder.
  • Assist in the assessment of mental health needs and propose interventions in collaboration with the team.
  • Participate in updating the service mapping.
  • Participate in the organization of focus group discussions, survey and assessment
  • Faciliate group supports

 

  1. Awareness raising about mental health
  • Participate in the preparation and provide awareness sessions about MH for the persons affected by Beirut blast
  • Participate in the preparation and provide sensitization sessions about MH for the staff of partners

 

  1. Reporting and meetings
  • Report on mental health activities and data collection respecting deadlines
  • Participate in internal meetings and individual meetings.
  • When required participate in external meetings with key actors, NGO’s/INGO’s, and hospital.
  • When required, participate in network/coordination and case discussion meetings concerning mental health

Requested Competence/Skills/Profile

 

  • University degree in Social Work required.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in NGO work.
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health in emergency context will be valued
  • Belief in a comprehensive and holistic approach towards positive mental health.
  • Arabic and English languages are mandatory.
  • Excellence in organizing, planning and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness and in proposing shared solutions for the continuous improvement of providing quality services.
  • Strong ability to observe, analyse, report and take initiative.
  • Ability to work with a team as well as to work independently.
  • Clear commitment to the project thematic.
  • Ability to communicate any technical or non-technical topic with clarity and to share any important project information with the team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word and Excel
  • Ability to self-reflect on your work, to recognize what needs improvement and to propose solutions

This position is a full time position based mainly in Beirut
