- Collect and process biological specimens for analysis.
- Perform routine analysis tests.
- Recognize factors of error that affect test results.
- Recognize peculiar results and report to the senior technician, chief technician or laboratory chairman.
- Recognize equipment malfunctions and report them to senior technician, chief technician or biomedical engineer.
- Perform quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of all performed tests
- Report and answer inquiries regarding tests results.
- Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform blood counts.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge in donor selection that entails donor interview, provision of instructions and filling out the questionnaire for illiterate donors; review donor complete questionnaire and assess his/her suitability for donation.
- Demonstrate human relation skills when working with patients and others; recognizing different patients’ medical conditions and severity; understanding of patient/donor rights and promoting the comfort and wellbeing of the patient/donor while performing blood/blood component collection duties.
- Demonstrate proficiency in performing simple to moderately complex blood collection techniques such as venipuncture and apheresis collection.
- Demonstrate a practical experience or skill in performing phlebotomy to platelet donors; perform plateletpheresis procedures; attend apheresis donors during the whole apheresis process; trouble shoot pheresis problems.
- Demonstrate practical knowledge in identifying donor adverse reaction and demonstrate proper handling of the donor reaction.
- Responsible for receiving blood/blood component units from outside Makassed hospital according to preset criteria.
- Preserve and release blood components while maintaining proper documentation and record retention according to Blood Bank standards.
- Adhere and comply with safe and efficient work practices in collection and processing of blood/blood component units.
- Report to Blood Bank Senior in case of complex operational and administrative problem.
- Clean up and decontaminate the stations at the beginning and end of the shift.
- Responsible for the efficient and cost effective use of supplies, reagents and equipment.
- Responsible for the performance, documentation, and evaluation of quality control data; recognizing and resolving out of control scenarios by following established protocols.
- Assist in the charging of Blood Bank procedures/tests, entering “used” blood components into the LIS.
- Participate in organizing and running blood drives.
- Ready to serve primarily during Night & Evening Shifts.
