PROJECT & INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

Mercy Corps is an international humanitarian and development organization working in over 40 countries worldwide helping people build secure, productive and just communities. In Jordan, Mercy Corps has been actively working since 2002 to implement a variety of programs funded by US and European governments and private donors. The current portfolio includes programs focusing on improved water demand management, conflict mitigation and social cohesion programming, child, youth and inclusive education programming, and humanitarian relief programming. 

Working in Finance Department under a direct supervision of Finance Coordinator, the Intern will assist Finance unit with checking accuracy and completeness of Mercy Corps accounting records, preparing various financial reconciliations, supporting with month end processes as well as managing daily routine tasks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Support the payment processing team (Finance Assistant and/or Finance Officer) to ensure all payments are cleared on a timely fashion.
  2. Data entry to MC Accounting System (Navigator)
  3. Assist with various reconciliations such as Bank, Cash, advances, receivables, payables, etc. 
  4. Assist with month-end financial reports and journal entries
  5. Assist with daily treasury Operations
  6. Maintain a soft and hard filing system in accordance with Mercy Corps Policies and Procedures.
  7. Provide ad hoc support to other team members
  8. Assist during the audit processes.
  9. Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Through the internship, the intern will acquire:

  • Learning experiences that combine in-class theory with real-world applications
  • Ability to work effectively with other team member
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of Finance & Accounting System in humanitarian context.

DELIVERABLES:

The intern is expected to provide support to the team in terms of:

  • Entering cash and bank transaction into Navigator.
  • Maintain a proper filing system of all financial records.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma:           University student in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • Experience:       0-1 year of Experience
  • Languages:       Excellent oral and written English skills
  • Communication and reporting skill levels: effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Interpersonal skills:       Positive attitude & proactive person
  • Computer skills:            Microsoft Office
