Nutrition Nurse (Dietician) 80% Bekaa based with frequent Tripoli visits

Scope of responsibility:

The main task of the dietitian is the nutrition counseling of the around 90 Diabetes mellitus Type 1 patients, aged under 20 years, of the DM1 MSF project in Bekaa and Tripoli.

Function responsibilities include:

• Consultations are carried out in the MSF health centers of Arsal, Hermel and Tripoli (Miniyeh). The project involves comprehensive care, carried out by a doctor, a nurse and a dietician. The patients are treated with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and analogues insulin applied by PEN.
• Close collaboration with the other members of the medical team, knowing that diabetes care involves the interplay of insulin, food and exercise, taking into account socio-economic circumstances. The goal of care is a normal development of the patients, avoiding diabetes related complications and patients/caregivers being able to independently manage the disease.
• Need of knowledge in pathophysiology of the disease, especially the interplay of food, insulin and exercise, detailed knowledge of nutrition science and experience and didactic skills in counseling children/teenagers and their caregivers.
• Responsible for teaching and training the paediatric medical team in nutritional care of diabetes and other nutrition related paediatric issues, such as healthy nutrition from birth to adulthood, prevention and management of malnutrition in all its aspects (low calory intake, unbalanced diet, diet deficient in micronutrients) as well as preventing and management of childhood obesity.
