Senior Program officer- Syria

Main Tasks:

Support management of projects

  • Assist the Country Director in managing a portfolio of projects;
  • When necessary supervise management of specific projects;
  • When necessary take a lead in managing the staff within in the portfolio.
  • Attend the sector working groups meetings.
  • Attend the DINGO meetings.

Monitoring (self-implemented) projects

  • Follow up on the effectiveness of activities and make sure they lead to the desired objectives;
  • Review implementation plan with implementing team periodically, and discuss challenges, and decide on best practices;
  • Monitor project implementation, signal deviations and initiate action as appropriate;
  • Attend to donor requests and inquiries and escort donors to project site;
  • Support and advice project coordinator(s) in project management and implementation as appropriate and necessary.
  • Conduct capacity assessments for new partners.

Evaluating and reporting

  • Support set-up and maintenance of project monitoring systems in collaboration with the M&E Officer;
  • Ensure timely submission of quality reports according to donor requirements in collaboration with M&E Officer;
  • Initiate and organize project evaluations to assess project outcomes, lessons learnt and best practices as per internal/external requirements.

Fundraising and project development

  • Identify funding opportunities through networking with donors, NGOs and authorities;
  • Take lead in conducting needs assessments in the field;
  • Develop and write concept notes and project proposals, including logframes, activity plans.

Stimulating capacity building

  • Identify coaching and training needs of project staff and partners staff and support in building their capacity;
  • Contribute to implementation of Capacity Development activities for staff.

Communication and coordination

  • Develop and maintain transparent and honest communication and relationships with local authorities, civil society organizations and (I)NGOs;
  • Close coordination and frequent communication with the line manager;
  • Contribute to strategy and policy development as required;
