ACTED is looking to a Research Team Coordinator to revise and finalize urban snapshot reports covering six areas of Beirut. The Research Team Coordinator will work closely with the Beirut Urban Lab at the American University of Beirut in the Observatory of the post-Beirut blast recovery. The six neighborhoods are: Karantina, Mar Mikhael, Geitawi, Badawi, Bechoura, and Karm ez-Zaytoun. The reports. The research was initiated as part of ta project supported by UNHCR, which is to approve the final version of the reports.

About ACTED
ACTED is an NGO registered in France with global operations in Central and South Asia, Europe, Middle-East and Africa. ACTED has been active in Lebanon since 2006 operating mainly in the North and Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates of Lebanon. Since 2013, ACTED has been implementing household and community-level programming in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and the North supporting public service delivery, support to civil society and social cohesion. ACTED has been on the ground responding to the Beirut Explosion since August 5th and is currently implementing large scale response programs in affected areas in terms of shelter rehabilitations, cash support, protection programming, support to damaged businesses, and support to restore public services.
About BUL
The Beirut Urban Lab is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research space. The Lab produces scholarship on urbanization by documenting and analysing ongoing transformation processes in Lebanon and its region's natural and built environments. It intervenes as an interlocutor and contributor to academic debates about historical and contemporary urbanization from its position in the Global South.
- Functions
The team coordinator will:
- Supervise the modification and finalization of the reports as per the revisions agreed upon, as follows:
- Add a detailed methodology section in each report, as well as mention if further research is recommended
- Analyze quantitative HH assessment data as provided by ACTED and the four INGOs (through UNHCR) implementing recovery works in the areas, and incorporate relevant findings in the reports
- Ensure the evidence-base better comes out of the narrative analysis, linking the findings with relevant identified sources of information
- Elaborate on recommendations for community-based projects, linking with the post-blast / recovery analysis of the situation, persisting blast-related needs and challenges (e.g. consider including recommended interventions to help slow down ongoing negative processes, recommended approach/rationale, stakeholders to be involved to ensure an inclusive process). This may also include any gaps or issues to be resolved in the future, primarily under 3RF and also under other programs. (i.e. from the Beirut Blast shelter sector ActivityInfo, the temporary technical committee for area-based approaches, shelter sector 3W, etc.)
- Liaise with ACTED and share updates about work progress;
- Ensure that a revised version of all six urban snapshots is submitted to ACTED by March 15, 2021;
- Work with ACTED to ensure the approval of all six urban snapshots in their final version by UNHCR no later than March 31 2021 at the latest.

- Fluent in Arabic, with excellent written and verbal English skills and the ability to work in an international context;

- Strong written expression and basic computer skills;
- Independent, adaptable, flexible and hard working.
- Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in Urban Planning, Urban Design, or Urban Policy;
- Proven experience in architecture or surveying;
- Prior research coordination experience is a plus.
