Media Officer

Over a period of three months (with possible renewal) three days/week, the consultant will: 
 
• Draft short press releases or quotes or social media messages (for breaking news) in English or Arabic under the supervision of the MENA media manager. 
• Craft social media posts for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram in Arabic under the supervision of the Regional Content Manager for campaigning content, analysis or as part of broader comms projects. 
• Assist with the drafting and uploading engaging web content (story pages, explainers, features) 
• Helping to respond to media requests from journalists and organizing interviews and to maintain media contacts database 
• Assist with monitoring and reporting of Amnesty International’s media and social media impact for specific projects when requested. Use results to make recommendations for future work to maximise impact 
 
Skills: 
• Substantial, relevant experience in similar role in journalism or public relations, in an international environment and an understanding of international political and human rights issues 
• Fluency in English and Arabic with strong writing skills in both languages 
• Ability to draft in modern standard Arabic for a media audience 
• Experience in the use of social media networks, within a business context to promote content or campaigns materials 
• Familiarity with Web Content Management Systems (e.g. Wordpress and Umbraco) 
• Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills 
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines 
• Experience in media monitoring, analysis and reporting
