Community Mobilizer - Bekaa - NATIONAL CANDIDATES ONLY

BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non- sectarian, non-governmental organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and other persons fleeing war, persecution and violent conflict. In response to the Syrian refugee crisis, IRC is implementing education projects in various locations in the Northern and Bekaa Governorates. IRC will be working as a UNHCR partner in North Bekaa to support formal school and second shift attendance and retention for Syrian refugee children. Programming will focus on working closely with refugee communities in North Bekaa to support children’s learning in formal schools.

The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for working at community level to support formal school enrollment, access and retention for Syrian refugee children throughout the Bekaa area. The Community Mobilizer will be primarily field based and will work in a team with Education officers for each region of the Bekaa. The Community Mobilizer will work closely with parents and key community members to support peer-learning and homework clubs, parent engagement with schools, and information/awareness raising at the community level.

• Perform outreach activities all over the Bekaa areas covered by the project , including community-based awareness raising sessions on the importance of education, students with special needs, and access to formal schools
• Participate in needs assessments, focus group discussions, awareness raising and information activities, and liaise with M&E team for feedback on M&E assessments
• Support with the identification of children with special needs (visual, hearing aids and wheelchairs) and oversee the distribution process in parallel with procurement and field staff (reaching out to beneficiaries, organizing distribution process, etc.)
• Identify community members who can work as homework tutors for refugee children, and support the homework tutors with necessary stationary and monitoring
• Collect data and fill assessment forms
• Ensure proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies on ONA)
• Attend regular coordination meetings with Education Officers and Education Manager in IRC Zahle Field Office
• Share information on successes and challenges with team

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• University degree in social science, education, pedagogy, or related field
• Minimum of 1 years working experience in the field of education conducting awareness raising and community information sessions
• Capacity to work in a team with flexibility to take on additional tasks, as needed
• Experience in working with communities (monitoring, training)
• Working experience in NGO a plus
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic mandatory English speaking is a plus

Travel and other requirements: The position will be based in Bekaa, with some travel required between Beirut and IRC Zahle field office.
