Psychologist

Psychologist will study cognitive, emotional, and social processes and behavior by observing, interpreting, and recording how people relate to one another and to their environments. She/He use their findings to help improve processes and behaviors.

She/ he will be responsible for:

-Conduct scientific studies of behavior and brain function of the child

-Observe, interview, and survey individuals

-Identify psychological, emotional, behavioral, or organizational issues and diagnose disorders

-Research and identify behavioral or emotional patterns

-Test for patterns that will help them better understand and predict behavior

-Write articles, research papers, and reports to share findings and educate others

Psychologists seek to understand and explain thoughts, emotions, feelings, and behavior for children -She/He uses techniques such as observation, assessment, and experimentation to develop theories about the beliefs and feelings that influence individuals (children).

1- Main Tasks:

- Develop and adapt ‘Focused psychosocial activities’ content in coordination with the Education Coordinator, Build the capacity of the PSS team on the FPSS interventions and provide follow up and coaching to the team;

- Provides guidance and advice to Education officer and Education activators.

- Lead supervision meetings on Focused PSS implementation.

- Gathers input in collaboration with the Education Coordinator for program development and monitoring, rolling out standards, methods and tools

- Ensures methods and standards for the implementation of Focused PSS programs are revised and remain up to date

- Assist the team in the Development individual and group progress report and maintain a filing system of children respecting confidentiality.

- Collects and documents feedback from the field on the implementation of the methodology including challenges and lessons learnt

2- Knowledge & Experience

· MA in Clinical Psychology

· Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a relevant field (focused PSS – Supervision – Training experience) ;

· Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in working with an (I)NGO in an international/ humanitarian context;

· Background/contextual knowledge and sensitivity concerning conflict and humanitarian context;

· Preferably previous experience in working with refugee/vulnerable populations

3- Skills

· Fluency in Arabic and English

· Team oriented, with ability to take own initiative and work independently;

· Cultural Sensitivity

· Listening skills, observation, sensitivity, sincerity, discretion, empathy, values diversity, excellent communication skills

 

 

Ensure children’s safety and protection:

  1. Work in compliance with and respect of the principles of Child Protection and confidentiality, working with refugee and host communities with sensitivity
  2. Identify key protection threats affecting the children and raise them to the CP Focal Point.
  3. Identify safety issues and follow-up with the supervisor on the safety and security of the chosen locations
  4. Inform the Supervisor about any health issues that could arise among children
  5. Identify children requiring case management and ensure safe referral to case management agencies or service providers in coordination with project coordinator.

 

Handle tracking, reporting on activities and filing:

  1. Collect data on the activities organized and ensure that all the relevant forms are duly filled
  2. Ensure related means of verifications (MOV) including registration sheets, attendance sheets, SDQs, evaluation documents… are in place for each activity in coordination with the Supervisor.
  3. Administer SDQs at the beginning and the end of each cycle
  4. Fill and archive specific forms for referrals and weekly reporting, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness.
  5. Responsible for data entry of beneficiaries’ details and do segregations, diagrams and charts regarding information  

 

Other duties:

  1. Attend and participate in weekly reporting and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care, quality PSS and referrals, and reporting requirements are followed
  1. Attend and participate in local and international training and capacity building events as needed
  1. Attend and participate in outdoor events and other organizational events

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • One- two years’ work experience in implementing recreational activities, psychosocial activities with children
  • Capable of dealing with children who have experienced war distress (education in emergency preferable
  • Knowledge on Child Protection and Psychosocial Support Programs
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to create and work as a team.
  • Creative and able to come up, embrace and coordinate innovative thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children
  • Knowledge of English
