Senior Research and Analysis Principal

Responsibilities

Deliverable Requirements

• Serve as the principal research methodologist and ensure rigorous, high quality data collection and analysis under the program. 
• Lead, conduct, and produce research deliverables that include ad hoc reports, monthly reports, special assessments, and weekly context reports.
• Lead research design, taking client objectives all the way through to instrument and indicator design and contribute to the design of data collection tools (surveys, questionnaires, etc.) 
• In coordination with research and field network teams, provide guidance on the development and design of research methodologies to best support research deliverables.
• Oversee a research team to support the development of a research agenda that includes illustrative topics for monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc deliverables.
• Oversee the review and cleaning of raw data as part of a broader data quality assurance process.
• Direct and deliver the writing and production of high-quality research reports aligned with contractually mandated requirements and formats.
• Routinely present research strategy and research deliverables to internal and external audience.
• Assume overall responsibility to ensure research objectives are met in a timely manner.

Leadership and Management

• Provide overall guidance and direction, workplan supervision, quality assurance, and administrative management, including recruitment and retention of relevant external expertise.
• Design a new consolidated structure, process and protocol to systemize the component’s work and appropriately support needs across the program.
• Lead and manage functions to deliver advanced analytics, trends and insights and actively propose research topics that feed into the overall objective of current efforts.
• Direct strategic planning, staffing, and operations for research team and generate program-wide priorities and direction.

Knowledge Mobilization

• Lead on knowledge mobilization tasks, including oversight over literature reviews and dissemination products, knowledge of developments within literature across all of topics of focus, and incorporation of learnings into processes and products.
• Collaborate effectively to prioritize and execute high research to incorporate inputs on multi-level recommendations.
• Contribute to the development of cross-functional and sectorial knowledge networks and stakeholder relationships, including organizing and representing the program at conferences, events and meetings, and help to disseminate and promote research products and recommendations.

Qualifications

• A graduate degree (PhD preferred) in the social sciences, humanities or law
• At least 10 years’ experience conducting (and preferably publishing) research and analysis in humanitarian, development or stabilization settings, with preferably 5 years in a managerial post
• Familiarity with the Syria operating context, local conflict dynamics, stakeholders, geopolitical concerns, and global humanitarian and development response priorities
• Previous experience with in-depth thematic research, remote conflict research, security analysis, atmospheric reporting, complexity-aware monitoring, traditional and social media monitoring, and spot reporting in complex and highly fluid environments
• Demonstrated client relationship, leadership skills and managerial capabilities 
• Demonstrated technical capacity in overseeing qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and reporting
• High level of detail orientation with an emphasis on precision and timeliness
• Highly organized, dependable and able to prioritize deadlines and proactively address problems as they arise
• Experience working in multicultural environment and teams from different backgrounds and ability to implement Proximity International’s values of humility and respect in the work environment
