Junior Field Extension Agronomist

To support the implementation of the Project “Promoting the local economy in North East Beqaa” the John Paul II Foundation is recruiting a junior field extension agronomist:

  • Support the implementation of the training needed to improve the skills of beneficiary farmers in the management of their family businesses and producer cooperatives;
  • Ensure the implementation and follow-up of support activities to improve the qualitative and quantitative production of the fruit sector, support the improvement of fruit conservation and processing in the Beqaa valley;
1.1 Ensuring continuous technical support to farmers for the implementation of quality production techniques 1.2 Ensuring the continuous monitoring of producers to verify compliance with the notions learned for productive improvement (quality, productivity and sustainability) in respect of the QMS and certification measures for those who apply for certification
  • Support targeted activities to improve the business skills of beneficiary cooperatives and producers

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support the data collection concerning the socio-economic status of beneficiaries at the end of the project.
  2. Support planning of workshops / training / information meetings and awareness-raising on needs analysis and financial planning, management control and cost analysis, cooperativism 
  3. Support training and follow-up for the qualitative development of the product;
3.1 Managing a continuous process of technical assistance to producers for the implementation of the reorganization of production techniques oriented towards quality, productivity and environmental sustainability. 3.2 Managing a continuous monitoring of progress in the implementation of the production reorganization
  1. Help the beneficiaries in the use of the materials distributed, especially the equipment for collective use, for which a user's manual must be drawn up by the community, mentioning the rules of use;
  2. Direct producer cooperatives in the implementation of a commercial strategy and related operations:
5.1 Direct support and continuous follow up of the operations in the cooling centers supported by the projects 5.2 Monitor and follow up of the harvesting season to ensure proper quality standards and quantities are respected to match with buyer’s requests during the season 5.3 Monitor and follow up of the recording system in the cooperatives during the production and marketing season (traceability and administrative system)
  1. Support the organization to participate in international fairs, open days, B2B meetings
  2. Support the organization of a training organized by the project on the creation and support of small enterprises and the granting and management of funds for the start-up of selected small enterprises.
  3. Support the organization with apprenticeship coaching.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Agricultural Engineer (preferably Master in Plant Production or protection with knowledge) with minimum 1 year of working experience in agriculture.  Field work experience is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language
  • Good attitude and experience in working with farmers, partners and allies
  • Excellent communication skills in building relationships with local and international contacts
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible and sensitive in demanding situations; passion for working with others
  • Good understanding of, and commitment to gender equity
  • Innovative and creative approach to problem solving
  • Driving license (mandatory)
  • Commitment to the aims and objectives of John Paul II Foundation

 Desirable

  • Experience in the cooperative sector and other forms of producers’ organization
  • Knowledge of local market dynamics and experience in marketing
  • Availability of personal vehicle to conduct field visits
  • Preferably from Baalback-Hermel region.

SELECTION CRITERIA

CVs will be pre-selected according to their coherence with the required profile. Selected candidates will be called for interviews and selection tests.

Interviews will take place in JPII Foundation HQ, Rue Gouraud, 191 Gemmayzeh, Beirut or in the field office, in Nabi Osmane- Beqaa (Baalbek Hermel) or on-line, if not possible due to COVID19 pandemic.
