Media & Digital Officer

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that delivers impartial medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care in over 70 countries.

MSF has been working continuously in Lebanon since 2008. Today our operational teams work all over the country delivering quality, free of charge medical care to those who need it.

 

MSF Lebanon Branch office is part of the MSF international movement. Our team is composed of 20 full time employees based in Beirut and Cairo working together in the areas of international field recruitment, communications and medical operational support.

From Lebanon and Egypt, we work regionally and contribute globally to MSF’s medical humanitarian response.

 

The Media and Digital Officer will develop a strong network of national, regional and international journalists based in Beirut and increase the visibility of MSF’s humanitarian principles and action, and work on raising MSF Lebanon visibility on the social media channels of the organization under the supervision of the Digital and Website Manager in Beirut.

 

The Media and Digital Officer will work on improving the quality of MSF’s engagement with its different online audience groups in Lebanon and the MENA region as well as boosting MSF’s offline through engaging digital projects and initiatives and implementing MSF’s social media strategy in Lebanon. This new role will be responsible for the daily management of MSF’s social media accounts in accordance with the strategic digital vision in Lebanon with the Lebanon Field Communications Team as well as other contexts in the region upon request. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Media Networking & landscape

  • Networking and Pitching by pushing MSF’s regional and international communication initiatives to local, Pan Arab and International correspondents.
  • Develop a network of local, regional and international journalists based in the country.
  • Profile MSF’s work, projects, and concerns on humanitarian crises in the region among regional and international media.
  • Facilitate journalists’ field visits to MSF projects and pitch key issues / projects to journalists;
  • Support the Director of Communication and Spokesperson by preparing documents for media interviews, key messages, statements/press releases, speeches
  • Submit a Weekly Media monitoring report mentioning MSF activities.
  • Update regularly the Media mapping and the media landscape in the country.
  • Provide a communication briefing to MSF’s international staff ahead of their travels and ensure that they are debriefed upon their return.
  • Profile international staff working with MSF and ensuring covering their stories in local and Pan Arab media outlets, by working closely with the Human Resources department.
  • Work with MSF communication resources in the region to raise the organisation’s visibility, acceptance, and leverage in the MENA and contribute to the development of a strategic network of local, regional and international journalists based in MENA countries, reporting on humanitarian issues.
  • Collaborate with existing regional MSF communication colleagues in Lebanon, Dubai, and Amman contributes to the media monitoring of Arab media and social media in order to identify risks and to advise on opportunities and relevant dissemination activities for getting MSF communications covered by national and regional media.
  • Develop relationships with networks of creative agencies, film makers, photographers, production companies and printing houses to support MSF's multi-media efforts in the region.

 

Social Media

  • Implement MSF Lebanon social media strategy
  • Provide regular written updates on social media activities and outputs as part of a wider communications reporting structure
  • Provide a Digital monthly report and Gather data to feedback regarding online content performance to international colleagues responsible for content production
  • Maintain MSF social media platforms (mainly Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn)
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings participate in office-wide debates to participate in information sharing across all departments and stay informed on important MSF topics to be able to contribute to the organization’s ongoing development.
  • Develop digital products for official social media accounts and the website, engaging with and delivering content to audiences i.e. posts and tweets, threads, gifs and videos, with a clearly developed narrative and tone of voice.
  • Write creative concept notes and scripts for social media and digital products and holds brainstorming sessions with relevant colleagues for campaigns.
  • Uses a variety of analytics tools (e.g. Facebook Business Manager, Sprinklr, Social Bakers) to identify and understand social media audiences and behavioural trends.
  • Collaborate with the Communication team to coordinate the Social Media calendar and the use of email in integrated campaigns.
  • Identify and establish relationships with social media influencers suitable to MSF’s principles
  • Develop and implement strategies for the growth of social media audiences, including horizon scanning for new platforms
  • Provide ad hoc support and sometimes backup (upon request) for Field Communications Managers and Field Communications Officers on digital engagement, social media management
  • As part of MSF’s international communications network, provide direct support to field teams and other offices

 

Community management

  • Maintain the daily community management across all central brand social media outposts (including. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other platforms if needed)
  • Provide engaging text, image and video content for all social media and professional accounts
  • Monitor, track and report on feedback and online reviews
  • Respond to MSF audience in a timely manner
  • Build digital relationships with MSF audience
  • Stay up-to-date with digital technology trends
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on community management queries / issues

Content Creation

  • Plan the content calendar process by raising brand awareness, increase data capture and engagement levels across all activity
  • Ensure the generation / creation / placement of engaging, creative and informative organic content across all central brand social media outposts
  • Optimise content for each distinct channel (whether content is written, photography, video or testimonial led), considering changing platform / audience requirements
  • Ensure content has a high visual and influential impact and meets relevant corporate guidelines
  • Update the website content regularly using the Content Management System (CMS)
  • Work in partnership with other departments generating content to influence / improve (e.g. Outreach, Medical Units, etc..)
  • Conduct ongoing research (as needed) to identify audience needs / desires / satisfaction
  • Lead content gathering / placement at identified events
  • Research industry-related topics
  • Work on broadcasting the monthly newsletter using Mail Chimp

Reporting

  • Analyse user engagement (e.g. click-through, bounce rate, etc..) and plan accordingly
  • Report on web traffic from all social media
  • Build and support SEO strategies, including optimizing keywords in content marketing projects
  • Identify habits of our online customers and suggest ways to reach a broader audience
  • Advise other employees on their social media activity (e.g. how to respond to comments and questions by customers and what to share on personal accounts)
  • Research how emerging social networks and features can benefit the organization
  • Update MSF Lebanon social media policy, when necessary
  • Monitor the digital competition
  • Work on the monthly digital report
  • Work on the First Impact Digital report after the release of packages on Social media

 

Experience:

Mandatory:

  • Key experience and interest in the MENA region and in humanitarian related matters;
  • Experience of Using Mail Chimp, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Social medial platforms.
  • Experience of publishing using a Content Management System (CMS)

 

Assets:

  • At least 4 years of experience in developing and delivering social media strategies with proven online content production experience and working on high profile social media accounts
  • Experience of supporting colleagues with communications activities, either through coaching/training
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic and international media networks
  • Use of website tracking analysis software to measure and improve digital media activities
  • Understanding of SEO best practice
  • Filming and editing skills are a plus
