PHOTO ASSIGNMENT

BACKGROUND

Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organization that takes decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger. We save the lives of malnourished children. We ensure families can access clean water, food, training and healthcare. We enable entire communities to be free from hunger. We are present in Lebanon since 2006 implementing projects in the following sectors: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Nutrition and Mental Health; Food Security and short-term Livelihoods such as Cash for Work and Income Generation Activities.

PURPOSE OF THE SERVICE

As part of our external communication efforts focused on giving visibility to our programmes, the purpose of this assignment is to collect professional photos of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assistance that we are providing in partnership with UNICEF to vulnerable Syrian refugee communities in Aarsal and West Bekaa. The activities include awareness sessions with the community and water and sanitation related services (installations and distribution).

SCOPE OF THE WORK AND EXPECTED OUTPUT

Action Against Hunger Lebanon will hire an individual professional photographer who will commute with our Communication and WASH teams to informal tented settlements in Aarsal and West Bekaa to collect high-quality photos of the activities, including sessions, infrastructures and some pre-identified right holders. In collaboration with the field officers on site, the consultant must obtain previous written consent through a provided consent form, as well as collecting a quote and the biodata from each person photographed in case of individual portraits.

DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Three working days including photo shooting (1,5 day) and editing process.

ASSIGNMENT DELIVERABLES:

A total of 15 high quality images, that will involve but will not be limited to:

  1. Food security/WASH awareness session with distribution
  2. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) awareness session with distribution
  3. Children committee training with distribution
  4. Awareness sessions on Covid-19 and personal hygiene with soap distribution
  5. Monitoring of water trucking/desludging
  6. Grey water system implementation
  7. Solar lamp distribution
  8. Water tank distribution
  9. Latrine installation
  10. Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (waste-water treatment system)

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Photography technical features:

- Colour space: RGB / Colour photography only (no black and white shots)

- High Definition (for printing) + Low Definition (online)

- Format: RAW + Edited JPG

- At least 80% of the photos horizontal

- Captions: [date, location, context, who are the people in the picture, a quote for portrait…]

REDLINES, TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • The consultant must respect our photography guidelines and abide by our protection standards which they will be briefed about.
  • Every interviewee/person photographed should give full consent to be filmed/photographed (or their caregivers for minors), including showing their face, by signing the consent form provided. We must highlight that the subject has their right to refuse and offer use an alias in case they are not willing to reveal their names.
  • Need to include Action Against Hunger and UNICEF logos in the background if applicable, and to avoid including other INGO’s visibility, or any political and religious banners or signs.
  • Prior to filming and taking photos, contracted staff is/are expected to receive situational briefing from Action Against Hunger Lebanon staff.
  • The consultant should not publish any photos taken in their personal or professional capacity on social media or any other platform.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Action Against Hunger will be the sole and exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights related to your creations resulting from the assignment (with the sole exception of moral rights), including without limitation the photos made by you during the course of the assignment.

These rights shall, immediately, upon creation or performance, be and remain the sole and exclusive property of Action Against Hunger and you hereby irrevocably and unconditionally assign to Action Against Hunger all right, title and interest in and to the same.

Action Against Hunger shall be the sole owner of the following rights throughout the world:

  • Right to reproduce on any medium and in any form
  • Right of representation and distribution
  • Right of adaptation and translation into any languages

Consequently, Action Against Hunger has the right to:

  1. Use the visual material for fundraising, communications and any other activities deemed necessary, in any countries, without any extra costs or charges to pay. This may include direct email, email campaigns, street fundraising, outdoor advertising, inserts, adverts, corporate presentations, websites, social networking sites and editorial as well as any other known and unknown activities.
  2. Provide the material to the media and other counterparts as long as the author’s name is mentioned, and the material is used under Action Against Hunger framework and without receiving any economic reward.
  3. Modify, reproduce, record, manipulate, digitize, the photos by any technical processes it desires, in all formats.
  4. Show the photos in public at festivals, cultural events and, in general, in any public place in any country.
  5. Use the photos with other visuals and audio, with or without words.
  6. Store the photos in the databases of Action Against Hunger offices.
  7. Insert Action Against Hunger logos, trademarks and text into photos.

Action Against Hunger commits to respect the author’s moral rights and agrees to credit the name of the photographer on photos used.

All Action Against Hunger staff in all countries have unlimited use of the photos in relation to their work and with no extra fees.

The images should not be supplied or sold to any third parties, including other organizations of similar interests, such as NGOs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND HOW TO APPLY

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Based in Lebanon
  • More than 3 years of experience in photography, film, or related field
  • Consultant must have their own equipment, transportation and insurance
  • Able to communicate, understand, and work both in Arabic and English
  • Able to travel to the field locations with Action Against Hunger Lebanon teams
  • Previous experience in multi-cultural and humanitarian settings is a must
  • Previous experience working with Syrian refugees is a plus
