SUMMARY
The Water Quality Expert Assistant will assist the water quality expert in completing all the assigned duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The assistant must be familiar with all water quality tasks in the lab and field.
- Test the quality of drinking and domestic water in ISs.
- Collect samples from the field at water sources and household level and water truckers.
- Become familiar with water quality standards and testing procedures.
- As per Concern testing protocols, take samples of drinking water at source and point of consumption.
- Water test (bacteriological water quality, nitrate water quality, aesthetic water quality)
- Use and maintenance of water quality equipment, materials, kits and consumables necessary for water analysis.
- Monitor quality of water regularly in all water points (boreholes, wells, tanks, taps, HH storages etc.) and trucker and accordingly, maintain a database for water quality results.
- Analyze results of testing as per procedures and against agreed standards.
- Document results of testing and refer abnormalities to Water Quality Expert.
- Provide or undertake water treatment as per direction of Water Quality Expert.
- Assist Hygiene Promoters to assess effectiveness of the intervention.
- Work with Hygiene promoters to trace sources of disease or contaminations in order to prevent further outbreaks.
- Monitoring of free residual chlorine.
- Prepare weekly, monthly water quality reports.
- Other duties as assigned by the Water Quality Expert.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Attend all trainings planned and evaluate these trainings.
- Suggest any topic for future trainings based on the needed skill or knowledge.
General Policies:
- Follow the general policies, code of conduct, Child Safeguarding policy.
- Adhere to the PSEA policy.
- Abide by the values and principles of all policies set by the organization.
- Perform other duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
Reports to: Water Quality Expert
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Bio-Chemistry or laboratory, possibly with specialization on water, or related technical qualification. Master degree is desirable;
Experience of 1 year working in a Laboratory with a similar position and previous experience in chemical and bacteriological analysis to assess water contamination; Previous work in NGOs will be an asset.
SKILLS
- Ability to work effectively under stress in emergency and other situations.
- Ability to use water quality field testing kits.
- Ability to analyze and interpret the results of a variety of laboratory tests of water.

- Solid commend of fluent English spoken and written is a must.
