Armed and Security Forces Programme Assistant

PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to support the Prevention team with the implementation of their respective programs. The Armed and Security Forces (FAS) Program Assistant will assist in the planning, carrying out, assessing and following up of Prevention and FAS activities. He/she maintains contact with authorities, mainly military or security forces, at various levels, and participates in meetings with different interlocutors, in a supporting role.

Minimum required knowledge & experience:

University degree in any social science field/ communication/ law or military studies

2-3 years’ work experience in a similar field

Very good analytical skills

Good knowledge of geographically assigned environment

Good communication skills

Basic knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law

Fluent in English and Arabic;

Independent worker with initiative, organizational skills and sense of responsibility

Team player with the ability to deal with persons holding various levels of responsibility
 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Armed and Security Forces Program activities:

Accompanies the Armed and Security Forces Program colleagues on missions and assists them in their activities;

Act as contact person during the absence of the program responsible;

Assist in the organization of seminars, presentations and meetings;

Contribute to networking and ensuring ICRC identity, mandate and mode of operation is understood and accepted by police and security forces;

Support the production of relevant material for the department;

Supports production of International Humanitarian Law material, presentations and training tools for arms carriers, including translation as necessary;

Follow up and analyze domestic issues related to justice and law enforcement.

Support the Sub-Delegations and offices in networking and interacting with the interlocutors

Prepares course material covering publications, handouts, exercise material and general ICRC dissemination material.

Legal activities

Accompanies the Legal advisor on missions and assists them in their activities;

Assist in the organization of seminars, presentations and meetings;

Supports production of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law material, presentations and training tools, including translation as necessary;

Prepares course material covering publications, handouts, exercise material and general ICRC dissemination material.

General Support to Prevention Unit

Follows up and keeps track of budget expenditure.

Assists Administrative and logistics arrangements covering travel and accommodation

Contributes to planning and budget follow-up

Internally, interacts with Welcome, Logistics and other departments in the delegation

Focal point to Chancellery and finance and administration.

Location: Beirut with field trips throughout the country.
