Disability Officer

Main Role

The Disability Officer will act as the focal point for disability inclusion matters and social work at PRC level. S/he strengthens ongoing and/ or implements new activities in the center of disabilities inclusion program and provides physical rehabilitation projects and service providers with appropriate support in promoting the development of an inclusive approach for people with disabilities.

The Disability Officer will ensure that the center is implemented in accordance with recognized standards and practices, while continually working towards improving the impact of its services on Person With Disability (PWD).

Operational/Technical Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities (sports, education, livelihood, employment).
  • Assess possibilities to facilitate and help the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) to address the barriers to inclusion that exist at various levels across the country.
  • Assess ways to carry out developments/information on disability rights, and implement advocacy plans and awareness campaigns.
  • Act as an advisor for the rest of the PRC team in developing and evaluation inclusion activities.
  • Facilitates contacts between the LRC physical rehabilitation centers and the various organizations active in the area of disability inclusion.
  • Advocate for physical accessibility, free barrier build environment and Universal design principles
  • Conduct prescreening assessment with the service users as part of the admission process in the center.
  • Analyze each case to provide the users with the relevant information or refer them to the staff in charge.
  • Select and refer service users to: Sports activities such as wheelchair basketball, LRC livelihood projects, LRC Psychological Support Services, External actors based on developed mapping of service providers.
  • Organize and facilitate the Career Development Program training to persons with disability identified in the LRC physical rehabilitation center
  • Follow up on data entry inside PRC and monitor quality and accuracy of data entered.
  • Provide support for data entry clerks.
  • Monitor and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to the project.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly analytical reports on referrals and any other data analysis as per the line manager request.
  • Update patients’ records.
  • Ensure that cases in need of external referrals are referred and followed- up in a timely manner.
  • Fill the Referral Database with accurate data and update it on a regular basis.
  • Conduct initial assessments of clients' situation to determine needs and goals.
  • Implement and respect safe working environment & procedures.

Function Specific Experience

  • Field experience relevant to physical rehabilitation project is plus

Industry Related Experience

  • Experience in similar volunteer-based organizations or humanitarian organizations
  • Previous experience as an LRC volunteer is an asset
