Creative Designer Consultant

A.1 BACKGROUND:

On June 30, 2020, USAID/Lebanon awarded ECODIT the Diverting Waste by Encouraging Reuse and Recycling (DAWERR) Activity, a five-year project that will establish sustainable and replicable integrated solid waste diversion and valorization solutions in rural areas of Lebanon, leading to improved social and economic well-being for Lebanon’s population. The Activity aligns with USAID/Lebanon’s desire to introduce financially sustainable solutions that increase the reuse, recycling, and monetization of solid waste to reduce the amount of solid waste that goes into landfills. The Activity has the following three objectives:

1. Build the capacity and commitment of municipalities to provide improved solid waste management (SWM) services either directly or indirectly;

2. Empower communities to sort at the source and participate actively in various stages of the recycling value chains (RVCs); and

3. Develop successful business models that create green economic opportunities and generate net incomes along the value chains.

The Activity’s period of performance is August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2025

 

A.2 DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

ECODIT LLC is engaging a Creative Designer to help DAWERR meet its need for quality design services. The period of performance (POP) is March 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022. The level of effort (LOE) over the POP is not-to-exceed 16.5 days. This SOW describes specific activities anticipated over this period. The Consultant shall conduct all activities and prepare deliverables under the direction of the DAWERR Communications/BCC Specialist.

 

A.2.1 Objectives:

The main objectives of this assignment are to provide technical support to DAWERR’s communications component in designing various artworks and to contribute to the development and improvement of the design, branding and layout of communication and awareness materials for DAWERR. The candidate should ensure that all material follows USAID branding and marking guidelines, and contribute to the overall outreach and communication strategy of DAWERR.

 

A.2.2 Scope of Work:

The Consultant will conduct a desk review of DAWERR’s activity and objectives in addition to USAID branding and marking guidelines to get a deeper knowledge on the activity’s component and branding standards. All documents will be provided by DAWERR upon completing an introductory/kick-off meeting with the consultant. DAWERR will provide the needed brief and guidelines before every task highlighting the purpose, objective, target audience, selected messages, and outreach mechanism for every design material/ deliverable needed. The consultant is also requested to contribute to the brainstorming sessions for awareness materials/campaigns, animated videos’ storyboards and scripts, and suggest innovative approaches and ideas that contribute to the overall objective of DAWERR. Accordingly, the Consultant will be providing technical and creative support through a pre-defined list of deliverables needed.

 

A.2.3 Activities:

The Consultant will be requested to:

  • Conduct kickoff meeting with DAWERR team.
  • Deliver creative and innovative ideas, awareness, and communication/outreach material in line with USAID’s branding policy: materials include banners, signs, posters, leaflets/flyers, backdrops, infographics, invitation cards, social media posts, etc…) for printing and electronic distribution.
  • Produce short, animated videos to be used to disseminate awareness messages on solid waste management and waste sorting mechanisms, and make sure they fit the context of the six pilot projects implemented under DAWERR. The consultant will need to work on the storyboard and script writing of these videos.

The specifications of each assignment including full briefs and content will be provided by DAWERR.

 

A.2.4 Deliverables:

The consultant will deliver:

  • Quality design for various DAWERR’s assignments completed in line with ECODIT Beirut LLC and the USAID’s branding guidelines and meeting specified deadlines.
  • Source file of all the completed assignments

*Exact submission dates will be discussed with the DAWERR Communications/BCC Specialist during the preparation of the consultant agreement.

 

A.3 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The consultant must have the following experience and skills to be able to perform the tasks of the TOR:

  • Proven graphic design and animation experience
  • A strong portfolio of illustrations and other graphics
  • Demonstrated competency with developing and producing video animations and infographics including drafting storyboards and script writing.
  • Strong experience in graphic design software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, etc…
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes/specifications and color management
  • Previous experience working on USAID supported projects is a plus
  • Creative with a teamwork spirit

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit detailed technical proposal for each of the above activities including a draft work plan/timeline as well as a financial proposal based on the template that will be provided by DAWERR team. DAWERR also will share any evaluation criteria for this CCS with the shortlisted candidates.
