Interim Community Center Officer

Tasks:

  • Create and sustain an approachable and diversity-oriented environment at the community center by prioritizing welcoming/assisting visitors and completing community center tasks.
  • Ensure all beneficiaries, members, and visitors of the center are abiding and being treated in accordance with its guidelines, regulations, rights, and responsibilities.
  • Ensure the center and its assets are always respected, and that the community center is kept clean, tidy, and orderly. Report any lost or damaged items to the manager. 
  • Maintain safety and security of the community center as set per internal protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure that the management and supervision of all community center activities are in adherence to the organization’s guidelines, rules, values, and are in accordance with its mission and vision. 
  • Ensure that all the community center and programs’ physical and logistical needs (including the purchase of consumables, stationery, and other necessary items for activities and community programs) are available and constantly up to date.
  • Carry out general administrative duties and ensure that all the center’s payments, bills, and upkeep costs are paid, recorded, and reported accurately in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage the community center calendar and schedule according to its function and activities in coordination with the rest of the community department team. 
  • Support the community department staff and other relevant colleagues in engaging with stakeholders, communicating with participants, and mobilizing members/volunteers.
  • Support the community department staff and volunteers in creating activities, events, projects, and outreach initiatives with community members and groups to address common needs and interests.
  • Respond to text messages and calls received on the community line, emails, and in-person inquiries in a timely manner with quality service skills and follow-up to ensure resolution.
  • Present written or verbal reporting when needed or requested.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings relevant to the community department and organization.

 

Education and work experience:

  • Studies in social work, human sciences, social sciences, human rights, or equivalent to this field.
  • At least one year of prior professional experience working in community settings.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQI community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQI individuals and communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • A demonstrated passion for the community center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQI people.
  • Excellent management, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and manage conflict within community members and to maintain the strictest levels of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Capacity to operate independently as well as work as part of a growing team.
  • Strong computer literacy required in MS Office (Microsoft Word and Excel).
