First Step Together Association is looking for a special educator to work in part time within a project targeting Syrian children with disabilities in Tripoli Region.
The purpose of FISTA’s activities is to protect, educate and ensure respect for children with disabilities independently from any political, financial or military objective and making no distinctions on the basis of nationality, race, gender, religious belief, class or political opinions.
FISTA’s Vision is a community, where each individual with disability is entitled his full rights.
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, The special educator will carry out educational activities with children and youth with disabilities and at risk of vulnerability.
The intention of this position is to build the academic, communication and social capacities of Most Vulnerable children and youth Through Psychosocial Support activities. The educator implements the activities in a manner that leaves considerable positive impact on children and youth with disabilities.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TASKS
- Assessing children skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
- To conduct individual, special education sessions to children presenting LD or ADHD, speech, psychomotor impairments as well as academic delay/ lack of academic skills, intellectual Disability and other disorders based on assessment outcomes.
- To fill assessment and session record sheets upon each session
- To report on the child’s evolution and progress to the supervisor, as requested.
- To prepare and share reports with caregivers and/or schools (when requested); indicating child situation... provide classroom tips and recommendations as well as parental guidance
- To collaborate with parents through meetings in order to meet special education goals and to evaluate the child's current level, personal areas for development, and capacities.
- Participate in the Team supervision sessions conducted at the center.
- To coordinate with the projects’ project coordinator and social workers.
- To coordinate with other specialists that are following-up with the same beneficiaries.
- To update project coordinators and social workers on the treatment process
Qualifications & skills
- BA or its equivalent of education or psychology
- At least 3 years of experience in the work with persons with disabilities
- Follows FISTA center policies and by laws
- Believes in concepts of human rights
- Respects each team member’s position
- Ability to work with children and youth from different backgrounds (cultural, ethnic….)
- Ability to constantly plan and design activities that hold interest for the children & youth.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High time management skills..
- Ability to work independently or with a team.
- Arabic is a must, French or English are required
