About the Project

The “Conflict Resolution Through WASH” project implemented by AUB’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (AUB-IFI) and Search for Common Ground (Search) seeks to provide support to identify hotspots in Lebanon with high water-related stress (in terms of quality and quantity) as well as water-related risk to conflict, in order to propose and prioritise action through water and/or wastewater projects with a social impact to mitigate risk and reduce tensions all in the context of climate change.

 

Position Summary

Search is seeking to hire two data collectors in Lebanon to support a research study in Baalbeck and west Bekaa. The data collectors are responsible to recruit note takers who will support them in note taking, recording, and transcribing the transcripts. 

 

The position holder will more specifically have the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Roles and Responsibilities

In close collaboration with the Beirut-based project and MEAL team, the data collectors will be expected to:

Key Area 1: Attend required training sessions on the research methodology and Focus Group Discussions questionnaire guide (led by Search).

Key Area 2: Contribute to identifying and reaching out to the relevant people for Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) in Baalbeck and west Bekaa.

Key Area 3: Conducting and facilitating FGDs with different target population groups, including women, youth and persons with disabilities. The FGDs will explore local perceptions on possible sustainable solutions to water-related conflicts in the area, to validate and further expand on the findings from the surveys conducted by the American University of Beirut (AUB) with municipalities in these two districts.

Key Area 4: The data collector should ensure that all FGDs are transcribed and translated to English with the support of note takers.

Key Area 5: Maintain a regular oral and written communication with Search’s Research team on the progress of data collection.

Key Area 6: Update Search’s Research team on dynamics and challenges on the ground.

 

Deliverables

The DC is responsible for submitting the FGDs transcripts in English to Search’s Research team immediately following the data collection.

Search’s Research team will review the FGDs to check the data quality and provide feedback accordingly.

Work will be paid based on achievements of quality deliverables

 

Required Profile

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in sociology, psychology, political sciences or any related field;
  • Experience with research methods and tools, especially utilizing qualitative research methods such as FGDs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with NGOs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Very good computer skills including using Word and Excel
  • Ability to conduct Surveys and Interviews on sensitive topics such as local tensions and conflict lines;Demonstrated understanding of the concept of confidentiality, data safety, etc.
