Ophthalmologist- Part-time

The Doctor works on a part time basis: 3 hours per day/ 3 to 5 days per week.

Doctors working in Amel Centers examine, diagnose and treat patients. They apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of disease. They take account of physical, emotional and social factors when diagnosing illness and recommending the required treatment. Patients may be referred to hospital clinics for further assessment and possibly for treatment.

As well as treating patients, Doctors refer them to a wide range of other healthcare professionals including nurses, radiographers, pharmacists and physiotherapists.

The Doctor works under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and the Medical Coordinator.

Tasks and duties

Specific tasks depend on the specialty. However, the following responsibilities are likely to be carried out on a daily or weekly basis, regardless of the doctor's specialty:

  • Monitoring and providing general care to patients in Amel primary Health center;
  • Examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions;
  • Responding to medical/health problems presented by patients including history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate;
  • Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing specialist investigations;
  • Making notes and preparing paperwork, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other healthcare professionals; 
  • Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in Amel centers to ensure quality treatment;
  • Promoting health education;
  • Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality;
  • Promoting health education in conjunction with nurses and social workers;
  • Organizing preventative medical programs for individual patients;
  • Providing specialist clinics for specific conditions or for certain groups, e.g. diabetes and new babies;
  • Meeting targets set by the government for specific treatments, such as child immunizations;
  • Discussing the development of new pharmaceutical products with pharmacists in the center;
  • Keeping up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications.

Other Tasks:  Reporting /Networking

  • Prepare medical records to be sent to Program and Medical Coordinator
  • Liaise with relevant NGOs, government agencies and national institutions to maintain a network and cooperation in medical fields

Degree in medicine (essential) + 5 years of residency training (essential).

License to practice medicine in Lebanon.

Knowledge and previous experience of the working geographical environment is an asset.
