The Politics of Social Justice in Lebanon: Between Citizenship, Identities, and Compounding Crises

Session 1: Mapping the Social Security and Protection Schemes in Lebanon

22 March 2021, 11am (Beirut time)

As part of CeSSRA’s research programme on social justice, this introductory webinar aims at providing an overview of the main challenges faced today on several levels as well as by several actors in addition to the required policy reforms and approaches.
The webinar will critically discuss how the scattered contributory-based and ad hoc system, provides social assistance along identity, class, political, and ethnic lines giving way for exclusionary mechanisms.
Lastly the session will explore how to shift from a charity-based approach to a citizen-based approach. The discussion will then follow with a Q&A session extended to the public audience.

With:
Mr. Ziad Abdelsamad (Arab NGO Network for Development/ANND)
Dr. Abdelhadi Alijla (Gothenburg University)
Ms. Alexandra Barrantes (Development Pathways)

The session will be moderated by
Dr. Stephanie Daher (CeSSRA)

This webinar will be held in English. Interpretation will be available.

Registration: Register and submit your questions to the panelists, before March 17, 2022.
