Assistant Vice President for Outreach & International Programs

Role Summary

The Assistant Vice President for OIP is responsible for overseeing the implementation of LAU’s USAID and MEPI-TL student scholarship Federal Grants, ensuring LAU’s Outreach and Civic Engagement programming, and expanding the university’s internationalization strategy to provide study abroad and exchange opportunities for LAU students while promoting LAU for incoming international students. The AVP will be responsible for four units:  USAID, MEPI-TL, Outreach & Civic Engagement, and International Services.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides overall strategic and leadership direction to ensure the successful management of federal grants and student leadership programs
  • Plans, manages and implements the federal student scholarship grants, including reporting cycles, grant application procedures, and personnel assessment
  • Works closely with Finance, HR, and the Office of Grants & Contracts on grant compliance, funding and personnel issues
  • Guides Academic and Program Directors in planning for and implementing yearly grant deliverables and events
  • Oversees all training requirements for teams working on federal grants and for personnel working on leadership and civic engagement programming
  • Promotes and strengthens the reach of LAU’s Simulation Programs to safeguard LAU’s reputation
  • Works closely with Student Recruitment within Enrollment Management to align the Simulation Programs with student recruitment to LAU
  • Maintains LAU’s visibility with local NGOs, civic engagement programming, volunteer and internship opportunities for LAU students
  • Coordinates with Deans of Students to ensure diversity and accessibility of services and soft skills training
  • Collaborates with Academic Deans and Provost Office as needed on scholarship student needs
  • Oversees the OIP overall budget process and allocation of funds as needed
  • Serves as the primary contact with funding agencies for consultations and technical collaboration on specified program activities and for reporting success stories, sharing programmatic data, and any unforeseen challenges
  • Manages key international partnerships, and follows up on legal processes required for LAU’s Internationalization strategy
  • Serves as primary point of contact with a full range of stakeholders, including embassies, NEA, and other Department of State bureaus/offices, government agencies, private sector organizations and companies, NGOs, among others
  • Creates new initiatives in civic engagement, outreach and international education
  • Provides support to Schools, faculties, and departments in developing and scaling civic engagement, outreach and international collaborations 
  • Provides the support needed for the successful revival of outreach and leadership student programs in LAU NY, including partnerships within various units of the United Nations
  • Reports regularly on the status of OIP for upper-level management and committees

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Master degree in management, business administration, international affairs, education, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 20 years of work experience, preferably within higher education, out of which at least 8 years in managing within Student Affairs and/or Grants and 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Experience with US federal grant management
  • Experience in internationalization within higher education
  • Deep commitment to LAU’s mission of outreach and civic engagement
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English and preferably also in Arabic
  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to deal with sophisticated systems implementation and operation
  • Able to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure
  • Ability to lead a diversified team, coach and develop people and foster a spirit of cooperation and integrity
