Psychologist/ Tyre

Terre des hommes-Lausanne is in search for a qualified Psychologist for its activities in Tyre.

Job Purpose / Main Functions:

  • Set up all the activities that will contribute to a child's growth and development and that of his/her family, for projects of the Terre des hommes delegation
  • The psychologist provides the child protection project with technical support in relation to the implementation of key activities, including, but not limited to, focused PSS and case management
  • Make sure that the Tdh strategy and policy are implemented in his/her field
  • Responsible for providing support in the reintegration process of children/youth in contact and in conflict with the law

Duties & Responsibilities / Context  (Tasks):

Provision of psychosocial support:

  • Provide MHPSS activities to children and youth
  • Provide Family Therapy to children and youth
  • Overview of case management assessments of clients to ensure qualitative reporting and analysis on a case-by-case basis to ensure action plan set with client is in line with protection principles
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services provided to clients, in support of quality monitoring and effective project management processes, at all times ensuring the confidentiality of clients’ identifying information

Psychological counseling activities for the beneficiaries:

  • Provide psychological care for children living on the sites through setting up assistance suitable for their specific needs
  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers to ensure the child's wellbeing and progress
  • Set up effective methodological tools for the psychological assessment of children taking into account the context
  • Assess and report the most serious cases which require specific actions or responses
  • Implement a proper case management, including partners, and result based oriented
  • Ensure a proper / relevant referral according to existing pathway
  • Support the facilitators in organizing and running dedicated activities for children and youth, taking into account the needs of the children and youth (recreational and sports activities, activities facilitating integration, family and community mediation, socialization of children with specific needs, etc.)
  • Participate / provide technical support in formulating sensitive themes and support strategies for the children and youth
  • Use creative and multiple approaches in therapy: The key is to be flexible and to adapt the approach to the child best interest. Focus on the use of play therapy as an effective treatment for child clients, including dolls, blocks, and technical supplies, to help children recognize and express their feelings

Technical advice to the implementation teams

  • Work closely with the project staff and the partners involved to resolve the children's problems and needs
  • Coordination functions and attend the case management meeting of the cases to which both are involved
  • Provide support to colleagues in identifying situations requiring intervention by a psychologist; by preparing a small monthly session (eg during a case management meeting) on situations that can be encountered and how to intervene with them

Data management and reporting:

  • Create and update the child's psychology file in order to report or track his/her psychological progress
  • Write technical reports when necessary to support the case management team (Reports to UPEL, and to the judges for example etc..)
  • Manage, file and store data, ensuring the confidentiality of the information collected and the services provided
  • Support implementation of monitoring and evaluation exercises, when required, in order to understand project impacts and outcomes, and report challenges encountered in the implementation of the project
  • Share and, if necessary, create planning, monitoring and evaluation tools which can be adapted to different projects
  • Participate in preparation of internal and external reports, as required
  • Draw up the monthly and annual activity reports
  • Provide an analysis and follow-up of the outcomes of the intervention projects with suggestions for adjustment where necessary

Coordination, Representation and Networking:

  • Establish a service mapping and ensure a relevant and regular follow-up including all actors of the area of intervention.
  • Coordinate with other service providers in order to ensure the access of individuals to services.
  • Support timely information sharing regarding challenges and needs at the field level.
  • Identify positive and innovative experiences in the zones and share them with his/her peers and line managers
  • In general, make sure that a positive and professional image of the Foundation is conveyed. In particular, ensure that the Foundation's mandate, ethics, values and views are followed in relation to third parties
  • Represent Tdh at strategic meetings in his/her field of intervention
  • Work with the government structures and other players involved in his/her field of intervention
  • Initiate and develop a relational network with other NGOs that operate in the same field of activity
  • Coordinate regularly with the team of the local partner.

Collaboration with Management :

  • Communicate and collaborate in accordance with the communication contract and participate in implementing it
  • Exchange information with his/her line manager on a regular basis and assist with circulating information following normal communication channels
  • Participate in technical management meetings
  • Develop with the project team an outreach strategy and clear internal and external referral pathway.
  • Bring forward proposals in his/her field of activity.
  • Participate actively in weekly team meetings in order to contribute to project planning and effective implementation
  • Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job

Organizational Policies:

  • Respects the Tdh’s Global Code of Conduct (GCD), Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy (PSEA) and Policy on Gender and Diversity and its principles of child protection, ensuring the policy’s implementation and prompt notification of the CSP/PSEA Focal Point with any information regarding potential breaches of the policy.
  • Is aware of, abides by and promotes the practices and values set out in all other Tdh policies and procedures such as the Internal Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures and other policies.
  • Report any breach observed in the framework of this policy during his/her professional activities both as regards the proven or suspected offence and a preventive breach.

Job requirements:

Academic Background: Degree in Psychology or counselling with psychotherapy, clinical and or counselling psychology work experience in working with youth.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in NGO or relevant work experience in psychosocial support/psychology, in clinical and/or direct practice settings.
  • Experience in clinical supervision, training and or coaching others.
  • Experience in assessment process , program design, evaluation and technical training as well as supervision
  • Solid understanding of protection principles, case management and survivor-centered care in humanitarian settings.

  • Fully understands the strategic plan, operational plans and logical frameworks of the different projects
  • Demonstrate listening skills, self-control, analysis and reasoning in situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of beneficiaries at all times
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and responsibly manage issues
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving multi-cultural environment

Location/Travel: South with some movements to Beirut
