Organizational background and mission brief

Mada is a non-partisan, non-sectarian Lebanese NGO, established and registered in 2000 in Lebanon which aims to reinforce the relationship between local communities and their natural environment for the satisfaction of their substantial needs.

Under the scope of the project TAPSA-« Transition vers une agroécologie paysanne au service de la souveraineté alimentaire», co-funded by the French Agency for Development and CCFD-terre solidaire, technical consultancy will be provided in Akkar in order to promote a more sustainable agriculture and to validate an approach to support the emergence agricultural practices that respect the environment and allow quality agricultural production while optimizing natural interactions.

The general objective is to increase the awareness of Akkar’s farmers, and promote more environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

 

Job Brief

 

Mada is seeking one local consultant to provide farmers located in Akkar, North Lebanon with the following training topics:

  • Seeds extraction and preservation:
  • Seed harvesting and extraction
  • Seed processing and handling
  • Seed drying
  • Seed storage
  • Seed longevity
  • Seed dormancy
  • Germination testing

The consultant is needed to support the intervention by providing agricultural trainings to farmers in order to promote a more sustainable agriculture and to validate an approach to support the emergence of agricultural practices that respect the environment and enhance agricultural skills for improving the quality of agricultural production.

The selected consultant will provide the mentioned training topics based on his/her area of expertise and work closely with the farmers, in coastal region and upper of Akkar, to create a healthy training environment while using interactive training approaches and provide support where necessary. Furthermore, Mada project team will work in close cooperation with the selected trainers to ensure that trainings are adequately delivered.

 

Main responsibilities

 

  • Provision of onsite 6 days training, 2 to 3 hours per day
  • Develop a clear outline of sessions and a clear schedule and timeline of trainings
  • The consultant has to share the training curriculum that will be used to deliver the training sessions
  • Agree with Mada on the training approach and training curriculum
  • Consultant has to report any issue faced during the training to Mada’s focal point
  • At the end of the training, provide a final report to Mada’s Project Coordinator on the overall training content, attendance, the progress of the beneficiaries, impact of the training, challenges faced during the training sessions, specific areas of focus required for the skills development of the farmers and recommendations

 

 Minimum Qualification and experience

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Agriculture Engineering, with theoretical and practical experience in good agricultural practices and seeds’ extraction
  • 4 to 5 years of experience in delivering similar trainings
  • Knowledge in permaculture and organic production’s principles
  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic, French and/or English as second language
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to travel to a remote area, ability to produce innovative, relevant training material

The total period of the consultancy is 2 to 3 weeks. The training consultant is expected to start delivering training sessions to farmers by end of May, 2022.
