Background Information/Organizational Context
The Community-Based Unit (Specialized) covers programming for Persons with Specific Needs, Child Protection, Gender-based Violence and Mental Health and Psychosocial support programming. The unit operates within the Protection Unit, located in Country office, Beirut Lebanon. The main role of the unit is to ensure that all refugees at heightened risk or victims of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation have access to support systems and case management.
By undertaking this internship, the intern will gain insight on what programming for persons with specific needs, child protection and gender-based violence consists of and familiarize him- or herself with the existing strategies, tools, programs and projects on the thematic areas mentioned above. The intern will also have the chance to directly work on existing prevention activities for refugee men, women, girls and boys in UNHCR and at the interagency level. The intern will also strengthen his/her skills in understanding data collection mechanisms including data analysis to support decision-making by the technical experts on CP, GBV and PWSN.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prevention activities
- Support the team to conduct a mapping of UNHCR prevention activities under CP/GBV and PWSN
- Map existing endorsed inter-agency prevention activities i.e. QUDWA among others
- Provide a brief presentation of all the activities, the gaps and good practices
Information management
- Support with data collection request for CP/GBV and PWSN
Reporting, meetings, and trainings:
- Support in the development and delivery of trainings relevant to the work of the unit
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting of activities
- Draft minutes of meetings, trainings, and workshops
- Other tasks as requested by the supervisor

Education and Professional Work Experience
BA in social sciences field, including anthropology, social studies, public health
Familiar with refugee situation is Lebanon
Familiar with data collection and analysis tools
Strong digital technical skills
Strong drafting and analytical skills
Excellent command of English and Arabic
Eligibility
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
