JOB TITLE: Gender Research Coordinator

LOCATION: Beirut based with regular travel to Mount Lebanon, North (T5 and Akkar), Bekaa (North, West and Central), and South

ABAAD PURPOSE:

 ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, non-confessional organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable peace, democracy and social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD believes that eliminating gender-based barriers, discrimination and violence while building women and girls’ agency and critical consciousness can allow them to participate effectively in all life spheres, lead change on their own, realize their rights and freely determine their life outcomes.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The Research Coordinator is responsible of providing intellectual leadership to guide research on gender and related thematic areas to contribute towards informed and evidence-based programming, and advocacy efforts of ABAAD. S/He will lead on designing research studies and publications revolving around arising issues within the gender field and which aim to influence ongoing efforts and contribute towards more impactful actions. S/he will provide leadership on research and knowledge products across ABAAD to ensure the identification of essential knowledge gaps relevant to the needs. S/He will provide quality assurance on all research-related activities and products, provide guidance to the ABAAD team on the design and implementation of research-related activities, as well as play a fundamental role in disseminating and communicating ABAAD’s research products to partners, stakeholders and the general public.

 

KEY RESPONSABILITIES:

  • Provide intellectual leadership to guide research on gender and related thematic topics in close coordination with the programs team to improve the outcomes of ABAAD’s work on advancing Gender Equality at the national, regional and global levels.
  • Assist in building a foundation for expanding ABAAD’s capacity to conduct social and gender analysis and collaborate in grant proposal writing
  • Assist in building and maintaining partnerships with academic institutions, international, regional and national organizations to increase capacity and partnerships to conduct gender research
  • Produce quality publications, including articles, policy briefs, analysis, research reports, inception reports, presentations and other outputs for a range of audiences
  • Lead on the development of research design, methodology and research questions related to research projects of ABAAD
  • Lead on the development of research data collection tools
  • Perform desk and literature review related to research projects and to identify knowledge gaps and support research design in areas related to gender, GBV, CP and SRHR, in addition to related other themes and topics aligned with ABAAD’s strategic interventions
  • Carry out quantitative and qualitative data analysis of primary and secondary data sets using data analysis tools such as SPSS.
  • Organize, design and carryout qualitative assessments on the field, often with marginalized or vulnerable people, in different locations and contexts.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Social sciences, Gender studies, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Development Studies, Public Health
  • 3-5 relevant professional experience in the gender and research fields).
  • Demonstrated published analytical pieces that have been peer-reviewed
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Experience with research design and implementation, and working with data analysis tools (SPSS).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English; French is a plus
