Assignment
The Speech and language therapist will be based in Amel Association’s Woman and Child Center, located in Douris-Baalbek. The Speech and language therapist will provide treatment, care and support to babies, children, adults and elderly people with a range of conditions, including cleft palate, stammering, language delay and voice disorders. These can be caused by a range of issues, including: injury, illness, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, physical disabilities. accident, disability, acquired disorders or congenital or emotional problems
S/He works as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside other health professionals, and will often liaise with family and caregivers when developing treatment plans.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessing the patient’s speech, language, cognitive-communication, oral/feeding/swallowing skills in order to develop a treatment plan.
- Conducting screening and testing, obtains diagnostic information, analyses information and makes recommendations regarding programs and follow up of children.
- Reviewing the patient’s progress and adapting the treatment plan accordingly.
- Clinical reasoning and professional judgment are essential to ensure the safety of children and protecting liability of the association.
- Advising on the necessary tools and materials for children with disabilities and teaching them how to use them.
- Giving advice and providing support for the beneficiaries’ family members and caregivers.
- Performing administrative tasks such as keeping records, writing reports.
- The speech therapist must regularly collaborate with the PHC’s health, mental health professionals and other disciplines as well to ensure team understanding of child’s communication performance strengths and needs.
- Conducting case study meeting to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual development plans and intervention plans.
- Participating in related training and internal meetings.
