Street Sports Activities Background

GAME uses street sports through a  ’Sport for Development’ approach to bring positive change into the lives of children, young people, and communities.

Street sports have a special potential to take on the barriers that keep many children and young people from being active because the sport can be organized informally, is free, takes place close to home, and has few requirements for facilities. They can be practiced in public urban spaces, on local playgrounds, in schools and parks that we call GAME Zones.

Through the different projects, GAME refurbishes public spaces for sports in multiple areas around Lebanon. These public spaces are open, accessible, and inclusive spaces for the community to use.

To be able to assure the sustainability of these spaces, GAME uses a participatory method to involve community members in the process of creating these public spaces.

The participatory approach revolves around hosting D.I.Y workshops with the community members to establish and build street furniture items and help finalize the design of these public spaces. This way community members will feel more involved in the process, get more familiar and have ownership over the space within their neighborhoods.
