Medical Doctor- Roving Unit- Older people’s project

Description: 

Under the supervision of Amel’s health department, the roving unit physician will work closely with the nursing team and the field coordinator. The roving unit physician is responsible for providing healthcare services (home-based) for the most vulnerable older people.

The medical doctor will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive primary healthcare package, including medical consultations and nursing care through home visits to the most at-risk or home-bound older people. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Participating in all aspects of healthcare at roving clinics, including taking a medical history, conducting a comprehensive physical exam, establishing a treatment plan, prescribing medications, scheduling follow-up appointments, and documenting everything in the patient medical records.
  • Participating in identifying needed equipment for medical roving units and informing the field coordinator about any shortages.
  • Providing medical consultations and follow-ups for all patients as per the project indicators and eligibility criteria.
  • Ordering diagnostic including lab tests and imaging to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
  • Prescribing appropriate medications as per updated guidelines and based on the available list of medications (project resources).
  • Documentation of first patient assessment, follow-up progress, medication prescription, and medical notes in the patient file and logging all visits on Kobo collect.
  • Educating patients and caregivers on disease prevention, complications, and management.
  • Identifying and following up on all cases requiring emergency care, stabilization, and referral.
  • Respecting ethical considerations with patients and caregivers including dignity, autonomy, confidentiality, and privacy.
