Community Worker

Job Overview

The community worker will be responsible for helping those who are vulnerable to become engaged and tackle the problems that face their community. The community worker should recognize signs of abuse: physical, emotional or sexual and physical neglect, to be able to make considered decisions about how to act to safeguard or promote children’s wellbeing. The community worker will work with children and their families in a range of complex situations addressing issues such as resilience and recovery.

RESPONSIBILITIES, MAIN DUTIES AND REPORTING:
  1. Work with community groups to provide a range of activities
  2. Identify and build on communities’ assets and capacities
  3. Implement the plan with SDCs
  4. Facilitate the participation of all the segments of the target population to the planned activities held at the assigned centers, notably the most vulnerable ones, ensuring that proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs;
  5. Maintain daily attendance registers and a weekly and monthly inventory sheets for each activity conducted
  6. Maintain and fill properly any distribution list or attendance lists for the activities conducted
  7. Be available to participate in meetings and trainings in and outside the centers when requested;
  8. Informs the project coordinator about any difficulty met during activities implementation;
  9. Ensure the adoption of minimum standard required were the activities are implemented;
  10. Ensure the respect of the code of conduct
  11. Accomplish any other assignment given by the supervisor
REPORTS TO: 

Project Manager

EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND:
  • A university degree in social sciences or any other related field
  • Experience working with Syrian
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the humanitarian field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Adaptation to specific working conditions
  • Capacity to work in a team
  • Capacity to work under high pressure
  • Willingness to learn new skills and/or approaches
  • Good capacity to interact with members of the team and different communities
  • Ability to maintain outstanding working relationships with external and internal sources
  • Ability to show initiative and take responsibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks, and situations
  • Compassionate, caring, and non-judgmental personality
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
  • Ability to work on the street at night conducting activities and supporting the team;
