Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in 1971. Today, MSF provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, and exclusion from health care or natural disasters. MSF in Lebanon currently has 2 projects mainly on primary health care and mental health, in Wadi Khaled and the Bekaa valley.

-Type of contract: Fixed term contract - 50%, 1-year renewable

-Scope of responsibility:
Perform oral and written translation, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure simultaneous, accurate, friendly, respectful, objective and fluent communication between MSF staff and local population.
-Function responsibilities include:
- Translate documents from / to mission language into a local one upon request.
- Translate discussions / meetings as requested
- Always keep respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in discussions.
- Ensure confidentiality of all translation is maintained as directed by the Mission/Project coordination team.
- Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating.
- Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
- Inform international staff about local customs, tradition, etc., that will help understand better the context and better communicate.
-Specific activities:
- Taking minutes during meetings and prepare accordingly meeting minutes in Arabic and English
- Support the Admin Department with any other administrative task
-Experience required:
- Essential: At least 6 months of previous work experience.
- Desirable: Previous experience with local or international NGOs
-Required qualification:
- Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Translation or interpretation or English literature
- Desirable: Master’s degree in translation or interpretation
- Essential: Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic
- Desirable: Limited professional proficiency in French.
- Essential: Intermediate MS Word knowledge
- Essential: Intermediate MS Outlook knowledge
