Background
Mada Association is seeking qualified Trainers in Solid Waste Management to work under the project “SWaM Akkar. Supporting Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Jord al-Kaytee, Akkar” ENI/2018/398-054, funded by European Union, in partnership with the lead applicant COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale, UoMJK Union of Municipalities in Jord al-Kaytaa, Studio Azue and COSPE - Cooperation for Development in Emerging Countries.
The project’s main objective is to elaborate a participative Waste Management Master Plan for Jord al-Kaytee, Akkar. Mada’s role is to implement the “Don’t WASTE your WASTE” awareness campaign aimed at triggering a positive attitude and a strong local commitment towards an appropriate domestic waste recycling practice with the local community.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
The Trainers selected will develop a training content and material and provide a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) training to 45 teachers / school directors divided into 5 school level groups with 9 members each. The ToT will be in schools in Jord Al Kaytee, Akkar.
One or more Trainers might be selected for this mission as deemed necessary by Mada. Following selection, Mada will decide upon the distribution of groups among the selected Trainers / Experts based on schedule and timeline.
The Trainers will be responsible for the following tasks and deliverables:
- Participate in relevant meetings with Mada Association and project partners,
- Prepare and propose the training material (content, exercises, and PowerPoint presentation) in Arabic and English and its methodology in line with the project objectives,
- Validate the proposed training material with the Mada Project Manager, and modify/adapt based on comments and feedback,
- Prepare and conduct pre and post-tests to evaluate the knowledge of the teachers and school directors participants and to track their progress following the training,
- Facilitate a 5-day ToT with selected teachers and schools directors, meant to enable them to train students (12-16 years old) on Solid Waste Management, for them to become ambassadors/volunteers in their communities to promote Zero Waste.
Each training day will be equivalent to a 3-hour session with a 20-30 minutes break,
- Conduct individual one-hour meetings with each of the 45 participants to address their specific individual technical needs,
- Monitor the attendance of participants and report any attendance and dropout issues to Mada’s Project Manager,
- Provide periodic reports (using a template provided by Mada) to Mada’s Project Manager on progress, attendance, challenges, successes, and next steps,
- At the end of each training cycle (group), provide Mada’s Project Manager with a final report (template provided by Mada) that includes recommendations for additional and specific areas of focus needed for the participants’ skills development,
- Develop material to be used by the participants when they become trainers,
The 5 Training Modules must be structured as such to empower participants to develop a new perspective, foster innovative teaching methods, and to transfer to the participants sufficient knowledge of alternative and interactive methods to teach in a more creative and effective way. The 5 modules will be as follows:
- Basics of recycling
- Consumption and everyday life,
- How to adopt a sustainable approach to people’s living environment,
- Training the new generation for the environmental requalification,
- How to organize didactical lessons and games on waste education for pupils,
The selected Trainers will deliver the above-mentioned training topics and work closely with participants (teachers and school directors) in order to create a healthy training environment while using interactive approaches and provide individual support when necessary. Furthermore, Mada’s team will work in close cooperation with the selected Trainers/Experts in order to ensure that trainings are adequately delivered.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
- Degree in environmental science, ecosystem management, environmental engineering, or related fields,
- Previous experience in Training, Education and providing Capacity building/TOT;
- Demonstrated experience in Waste Management,
- Time management, good organizational and communication skills, ability to be flexible,
- Strong interpersonal, reporting and facilitation skills,
- Understanding of cultural and socio-economic context and development challenges in Jord al-Kaytee, Akkar.
Time Frame/Duration
The mission will be conducted over 2.5 months. The ToT will consist of 5 sessions delivered to 5 different participant groups in 5 different schools located in Jord al-Kaytee, Akkar over a two-week period for each group.
The selected Trainers are expected to start the mission in June 2023 as per the table Attached (Annex A).
Interested trainers must submit the following documents to vacancy@mada.org.lb specifying the full title of the consultancy in the subject of the email. Please send:
- Personal Curriculum Vitae, including previous professional references,
- A Cover Letter that includes a detailed description of past work in conducting similar trainings to demonstrate their qualifications,
- Financial expectation per school group (3 levels per school (Elementary, Primary, and Secondary; 9 participants each) including transportation, delivery of ToT training, development of content and material, meetings, reporting and follow up and other related tasks as mentioned above.
- Payments will be made upon the completion of the ToT training sessions, development and delivery of content and material and reporting approved by the Mada Project Manager. The Trainers/Experts will provide Mada with an invoice including her/his fiscal number in order to receive the payment, if she/he has a fiscal number. If they does not have a fiscal number, Mada will be responsible for complying with the competent tax authorities, and therefore 7.5% of the total amount received will be deducted to be paid by Mada to cover taxes.
