Midwife

The Midwife position operates under the supervision of humedica Health Coordinator. The Midwife will The Midwife will provide awareness and counseling to mothers of all nationalities with sub-optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices at various levels: Syrian community level, Primary Healthcare level and public institution level. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Give one-on-one counseling sessions related to IYCF for pregnant women and mothers who have just delivered. 
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to all women assisted, especially mothers of children under 6 months, to ensure exclusive breastfeeding. 
  • Conduct awareness sessions in the refugee community camps and in public institutions to spread the knowledge among vulnerable families about optimal IYCF practices. 
  • Screen for malnutrition among lactating and pregnant women.
  • Support with the distribution of micronutrient supplements for the most vulnerable children, aged 6-59 months. 
  • Develop different awareness tools such as lesson plans and educational booklets. 
  • Train Community Health Volunteers on different reproductive, maternal and child health topics. 
  • Create a weekly schedule of activities to be conducted. 
  • Organize and complement campaigns and activities when needed. 
  • Keep the necessary files for each case visited and counseled. 
  • Responsible for distribution of non-food items and keeping records. 
  • Keep proper track and records on program materials and activities (eg: incentives…etc) 
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports to Health Coordinator including awareness database, counselling database...etc. 
  • Attend trainings and capacity building workshops provided by humedica and other INGOs. 
  • Attend meetings recommended by Health and Area Coordinators. 
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Post is based in the humedica office in Zahle, Central Bekaa. Most of the fieldwork will be conducted in health centers, and the employees will spend 95% in the field sites. 

Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) are essential 
  • Working knowledge in the provision of maternal and child health 
  • Work experience minimum 2-3 years in relevant field 
  • Previous working experience with INGO is a must 
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is essential
