INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS identifies with the core values of CONCORD, the European Confederation of NGOs; it adheres to international codes of conduct for humanitarian organizations and the values and principles expressed within those codes. INTERSOS is recognized by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralized offices.

THIS IS A TENTATIVE POSITION

Job Purpose:

 

The role of the psychologist entails working alongside OVs in order to supervise and support them in providing community-based PSS in their communities. The main suggested activities and responsibilities of the psychologist are detailed below. Psychologist deployed under INTERSOS in The South will report directly to the Protection Manager during the recruitment period. The psychologist is also required to support INTERSOS staff to improve the quality of specialized services and individual psychological support provided for GBV survivors, CP cases and persons with specific needs (PwSN)

 

 

 

Generic Duties:

  1. Assess the needs of the targeted beneficiaries in each center and design, in collaboration with the staff, a package of PSS activities for the beneficiaries of INTERSOS centre;
  2. Support INTERSOS staff to improve the quality of specialized services provided (specialized psychological services, group therapy, individual counseling, and basic Sexual Reproductive Health services) for GBV survivors, CP cases and individual at risk in the different CAFS; psychological support for GBV survivors and CP cases;
  3. Monitor the activities (awareness and support groups), within the centers and outside, and provide management advice in order to improve the activities implementation;
  4. Report to the Protection Manager/and protection officer any problems and/or training needs identified during the monitoring of the implementation of psychological activities;
  5. Produce and maintain in an accurate way a weekly and monthly report of the activities conducted, including the number of cases counseled; and training delivered
  6. Be available to train on psychological support and first aid INTERSOS staff and Outreach volunteers
  7. Collaborate with INTERSOS staff in conducting any other trainings when requested by the PM;
  8. Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM;
  9. Be available to participate in meetings in INTERSOS offices or other identified premises.
  10. Contribute in the selection of the OVs based on pre-determined criteria
  11. Conduct an individual assessment of each OV to determine the capacities, skills and mental health well-being
  12. Provide the OVs with an introduction on MHPSS
  13. Ensure that the OVs are aware and practicing self-care
  14. Conduct group assessments or focus group discussions with OVs to learn about the challenges they encounter, coping mechanisms, suggested solutions and their understanding of MHPSS and self-care
  15. Conduct a refresher on safe-identification and referral of cases in need of mental health services
  16. Identify profiles of cases to be handled by OVs as part of their implementation of group PM+
  17. Suggest the number of persons each OV should conduct group PM+ with per session and per week/per month  
  18. Draft the supervision flow and referral process between the psychologist, case manager, OV coordinator and OV, and the supported cases  

 

 

 

Specific Duties:

 

  1. Participate in awareness sessions and activities when required by the PM.
  2. Follow up with  Outreach volunteers on the project implementation
  3. Support in training and coaching of the  OVs
  4. Provide ongoing technical support and supervision to the volunteers and team
  5. Coordinate with CM team and other actors on the identification of cases (based on agreed on criteria or profiles)
  6. Ensure timely reporting of the activities implemented

 

 

 

Education:

 

  • University Degree in Psychology.

 

 

Competencies: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

 

Professional Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in a clinical setting and with at least 1 NGO;
  • Understanding and commitment to child’s rights and protection;
  • Experience providing individual counselling services;
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Analytical and reporting skills;
  • Driving license.
