Reading Club Facilitators (Unlock Literacy) - Casual Worker/Tripoli

Job Summary:

Male and Females facilitators are responsible to conduct Reading Club sessions which are designed as a safe space for children in Gr. 1-3 to regularly come together and participate in enjoyable, playful and literacy-linked activities. The goal of Reading Clubs is to develop a love of reading. They help literacy and learning by providing children with the chance to interact with reading outside of school, in an enjoyable way.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Attend all WV trainings and capacity building/coaching sessions including education (Unlock Literacy), child protection (Core concepts, safe identification and referral, PSS), Child Safeguarding, gender equality and social inclusion, accountability and information management
  • Attend and participate in reporting and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care, quality education, referrals, and reporting requirements, are followed
  • Outreach boys and Girls between 6 and 9 years in the UL classes with the support of local organizations in the area and project coordinator.
  • Support in registration for selected children on the system
  • Prepare for the reading club sessions following the facilitator guide
  • Facilitate the Unlock literacy sessions for children Grade 1 to 3
  • Deliver psychosocial support (PSS) and other recreational activities for children once per week
  • Ensure safe, secure (physical and emotional), simulative and inclusive child-centered environment to meet the abilities and fulfill the needs of the children (including children with disabilities and children with learning difficulties)
  • Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with Children colleagues, supervisors and other WV staff
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Facilitator learning circles (FLCs)
  • Record attendance of children using hard and soft tools, follow up closely on absenteeism and those who dropped out or are at the risk of dropping out and keep a record of the follow-up actions taken
  • Identify and refer child protection cases following World Vision policies and mechanisms
  • File in the Referral Tracking sheet on a monthly basis
  • Report child safeguarding cases and threats following World Vision policies
  • Collect data on the activities organized and ensure that all the relevant forms are, filled.
  • Ensure all project means of verifications (MOV) including registration sheets, attendance sheets, evaluation documents…are in place.
  • Respect and commit to WV’s internal policies and procedure including Child Safe Guarding, code of conduct, dressing code…

 

Minimum requirements:

  1. Facilitators must be able to read fluently, expressively, and with full comprehension.
  2. Facilitators should be selected from local youth, ages 16 to 25.
  3. There should be at least two facilitators per Club – When possible, there should be at least one female and one male facilitator.
  4. Facilitators should live within the communities they serve.
  5. Parents and other community members may also support the reading club by helping in facilitating the activities, reading stories or overseeing the book borrowing process, among others.
  6. Previous experience with children from 6 to 9 years old.
  7. Ability to work under pressure.
  8. Good communication skills
  9. Knowledge in using social media applications.
  10. Knowledge in using MS-Word / MS-Excel – Intermediate Level
