World Learning – Dirasa Program - Educational Researcher

Background
The UNICEF-funded Programme “Supporting Vulnerable Girls & Boys to Access Education in Lebanon" aims to create for out-of-school children’s multiple pathways that are flexible and responsive to each child’s unique learning needs. The program will be implemented in private schools and is estimated to target out of school children.
World Learning has an immediate vacancy for its Beirut-based “Educational Researcher” for the UNICEF-funded Programme. This position is for a Lebanese national.

Scope and Responsibilities
The “Educational Researcher” will work closely and report to and assist the World Learning’s Beirut office Project Manager in coordination with the MEL officer in developing a leveling system to support in placing students at the right level at the beginning of the academic year. The system will consider the students’ age and provide data to inform moving the student to the next academic level. The data generated will feed into SBP CLM application. The researcher will be able to:
• Set leveling system related to UNICEF funded Program focused on non-Formal primary school education for transition out strategy in partnership with the M&E Director and in coordination with MERL officer.
• Develop and test the proposed methodology and protocol (including tools development, data verification techniques, data collection methodology), review and adapt the design as necessary.
• Conduct qualitative research such as key informant interviews, focus groups and desk reviews.
• Conduct school visits as needed in relation to the research.
• Lead on data analysis.
• Coordinate with MERL Director to ensure quality control, identify problems, causes of potential bottlenecks in implementation, and provide specific recommendations/solutions.
• Develop the final report.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in educational statistics, assessment measurement or any related field. A PhD degree is an advantage.
• Proven track record in design of assessment studies, overseeing field data collection and developing tools and surveys using quantitative and qualitative approaches.
• Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills and the knowledge of interviewing techniques are necessary traits.
• Familiarity with the public education and non-formal education sectors in Lebanon.
• Experience conducting quantitative research using various platforms is highly desirable.
• Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and organizational skills.
• High-level proficiency in English, Arabic (reading, writing, and speaking), knowledge of French is highly desirable.
• Proven and strong research skills.
• Ensure safeguarding requirements are applied and reflected in the solicitation and contract as applicable.
• Must have a team-oriented attitude to train others involved in the program and a professional demeanor.
