Social Worker

INTERSOS is an International NGO that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS identifies with the core values of CONCORD, the European Confederation of NGOs; it adheres to international codes of conduct for humanitarian organizations and the values and principles expressed within those codes. INTERSOS is recognized by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralized offices.

 

Job Title      : Social Worker

Job Purpose:

 

The Social Worker will support the project activities with identification of target population and provide coaching to peers, mothers, girls, boys and fathers during their information dissemination sessions. The social workers will also attend the capacity development trainings. As well they will be in charge of activities implementation and/or trainings in INTERSOS centers and outreach working directly with women and adolescent girls. In particular, the social worker will ensure a comprehensive package of services for women and girls victims or at risk of violence in all locations where activities are implemented combining static and mobile approaches.

 

Generic Duties:

 

  1. Conduct a daily variety of peer-led focus groups discussions and structured activities (emotional support group sessions, awareness sessions, info sessions and life skills) within the center and in the collective sites, catering to the needs of women and girls of different ages accordingly to the center activities weekly schedule.
  2. Facilitate the participation of all the segments particularly woman and girls of the targeted population to the planned activities held at the assigned center, notably the most vulnerable ones (refugees, local community, adolescent, women, elderly, minority members, people with disabilities etc.), ensuring that proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs;
  3. Maintain daily attendance registers in addition to weekly and monthly inventory sheets for each activity conducted in collaboration with the senior case worker and the other staff members;
  4. Maintain and fill properly any distribution list or attendance lists for the activities conducted or the distribution done, under the supervision of the Senior case worker;
  5. Informs the supervisors about any difficulty met in INTERSOS activities implementation;
  6. Be available to participate in meetings and trainings in and outside the centers and/or in Intersos Beirut office when requested;
  7. Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM.

                    

Specific Duties:

 

  1. Engaging entities such as women/youth organizations, start-ups, and private sector companies engaged to select and support innovative projects by girl leaders.
  2. Conducting community outreach to identify and mobilize potential peers within target communities
  3. Ensure the adoption of minimum standard required (ex. Women and Girls Safe Space checklist) in the centers, and in the collective sites where the activities are implemented;
  4. Identify and refer women and girls victims or at risk of violence and to provide information on services available
  5. Promote life skill activities such as socio-economic / empowerment opportunities and life plans
  6. Identify "Female Champions" to use their Early Marriage stories to sensitize adolescent girls and community events with Male stakeholders.
  7. Promote for community-based advocacy by engaging Peers (girls, mothers and champions), pledge ceremonies by community leaders.
  8. Contribute in the design of Social Media peer to peer sensitization pages, handouts and presentations.
  9. Contribute to the development of community brochures in consultation with women and girls in the communities to orient them on the services available
  10. Ensure the storage and distribution of dignity kits.

 

Reporting:

 

  1. Fill in daily, weekly and monthly monitoring tools to be validated by the Protection Manager
  2. Write reports on monthly basis and send them to the Protection Manager
  3. Prepare weekly and monthly plans of the activities to be validated by the Protection Manager

     

Administration:

 

  • Contribute to the preparation of weekly liquidity plans (Schedule) and be responsible of it;

 

 Logistic:

  • Coordinate, through the Protection Manager, with the INTERSOS Logistic Department for refreshment and material delivery and centers maintenance.   

 

 

Competencies: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

 

Professional Competencies:

  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in implementing programs focused on women and girls victims or at risk of violence
  • Deep knowledge of GBV issues and ad hoc curriculum
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, being knowledgeable about media, advertising panels and liaison lanes would be significant  
  • Knowledge of English
  • Good knowledge word and excel
  • Driving license issued since more than 2 years
  • Strong observation, analytical and listening skills
  • The capacity to absorb legal/procedural information
