OBJECTIVE
CPS is seeking an experienced accountant to handle all financial transactions in compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, best practices, and applicable laws. The accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring financial transparency, and contributing to developing the organization’s financial processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accounting
- Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping using CPS's internal accounting system, ensuring accurate recording of transactions.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyse financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Prepare and execute payments to consultants, vendors, and contractual staff in accordance with CPS’s financial policies, agreements, and approved budgets.
- Manage the data-entry and facilitate the migration to a new ERP system.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of bank and cash accounts.
- Conduct weekly cash counts for petty cash and program-held funds.
- Support internal audits by preparing all required documents, including agreements, invoices, and receipts.
- Assist with external audits to ensure timely and accurate audit reports.
- Assist the management in preparing monthly and quarterly cash flow forecasts.
- Oversee recurring expenses and ensure proper documentation, including those for office operations, Ministry of Interior and Finance requirements, NSSF, and other relevant fees.
- Ensure timely filing of tax declaration and NSSF submissions.
- Ensure correct invoicing for all contracts and promptly flag discrepancies to the Executive Director.
- Assist in updating financial tools and processes, including budgeting and financial systems.
- Collaborate with management to prepare annual operational and project-based budgets.
- Prepare monthly Budget Vs Actual report and submit it to the management.
- Always ensure full compliance with CPS’s procurement and financial policies.
2. Donor Compliance and Financial Management
- Ensure that robust financial management systems are in place and that CPS adheres to accounting standards and best practices.
- Ensure full compliance with donor requirements, audit standards, and local authorities' regulations.
- Align financial processes with donor reporting and implementation guidelines.
- Prepare budgets and financial reports for donors according to their specific templates and guidelines.
- Ensure maintaining proper financial reporting by project.
- Monitor expenditure and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for management, including income statements, balance sheets, and other requested financial documents.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including VAT, NRT, and labour-related taxes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with accounting systems, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with experience in NGOs highly preferred.
COMPETENCIES
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
