Situation Update
The number of internally displaced people (IDP) continued to rise since the intensity of the hostilities increased mid-September 2024, and many of them are displaced for the second time since 08 October 2023, the Gaza conict spillover along Lebanon’s southern border. Since the onset of hostilities last year, a total of 2,464 deaths and 11,530 injuries out of which 1,532 deaths and 8,885 injuries are from 17 September 2024.
Against the backdrop of limited resources, mass displacement, inadequate WASH and shelter support, insecurity restricting humanitarian access, the detection of the rst cholera case in Akkar will test the health sector’s capacity to respond according to the Multi sectoral Cholera Preparedness and Response Strategy.
The number of collective shelters has reached 1,032, accommodating 39,300 displaced families and a total of 187,000 individuals.
Limited resources, mass displacement, insecurity restricting humanitarian access is increasing the public health risks, especially inadequate WASH and shelter support will exacerbate the likelihood and spread of infectious disease outbreaks.
