A speech therapist focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders in individuals. In a project supporting conflict-affected and vulnerable populations, especially women and adolescent girls with disabilities, their role involves enabling effective communication, addressing trauma-related speech or language difficulties, and improving quality of life through therapy. They design personalized interventions to enhance language development, articulation, and social interaction, while addressing cognitive-communication challenges and swallowing disorders. Speech therapists also provide training to caregivers and communities to support ongoing communication needs and advocate for inclusive practices, fostering empowerment, dignity, and safety for the individuals they serve.
