About FSC PROJECTThe Food System Challenge supports businesses to solve core challenges of the food system in Lebanon, and more specifically in the sectors of dairy and meat production (cow, goat, sheep), cereals and pulses (and its by-products), protected horticulture (Classical green houses, hydroponics, and aquaponics), and domesticated edible herbs and plants.
The Food System Challenge is implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Berytech through support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Throughout FSC’s previous and current cycles, the program supported over 40 SMEs to fortify the Lebanese food system to create a more sustainable ecosystem.
SME Background- Bionord SARL is a Lebanese dairy company founded in 2020, specializing in high-quality, additive-free dairy products.
- Ghalatouna is a Lebanese SME specializing in bulgur production and distribution, with a focus on sustainability and local agricultural support.
The scope of work for this assessment includes, but is not limited to:
- Conducting a comprehensive assessment of current food safety practices.
- Identifying gaps and areas for improvement to meet food safety standards.
- Providing recommendations and developing an action plan to address identified gaps.
The assessment will cover, but not limited, the following areas:
- Food handling and preparation practices
- Hygiene and sanitation standards
- Storage and transportation conditions
- Employee training and awareness
- Pest control measures
- Compliance with relevant food safety regulations and standards
Duration
The consultancy is expected to span 1 month, with specific on-site days to be agreed upon based on project milestones and progress.
Key DeliverablesThe consultant/firm will be responsible for delivering the following:
- A detailed assessment report outlining current practices and compliance status.
- A gap analysis report identifying areas for improvement.
- A comprehensive action plan with clear steps and timelines to achieve compliance.
The consultant should have:
- Proven experience in conducting food safety assessments
- In-depth knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities soon after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both the company’s and the Consultant’s availability. The total budget allocated for the intervention is about $600 per company.
Candidates should submit the following documents.
- Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, Duration, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
- Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs should be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
- Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed timeframe of the intervention. Quotations in response to this RFP must be priced on a Level-of-effort (Number of working days) term contract, all-inclusive basis, including delivery and all other costs. Pricing must be presented in USD and offers must remain valid for not less than 30 calendar days after the offer deadline. Offerors are requested to provide quotations on their official quotation format or letterhead.
**The firm/consultant is required to perform a pre-assessment visit/call to the business before submitting the proposal to assess and quote accordingly**
