Course Description

Budgeting, financial management, and risk mitigation are crucial aspects of non-profit management. Strategic budgeting and sound financial management allow organizations to align and communicate their financial information in a way that is integrated into the decision-making process. Non-profits face various financial risks, such as funding uncertainties, economic fluctuations, legal and compliance risks, and operational vulnerabilities. Implementing risk mitigation strategies allow organizations to proactively identify, assess, and manage these risks. It helps minimize potential financial losses, protect the organization's assets, and ensure continuity of programs and services.

This course is designed to equip professionals working in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with the essential skills and knowledge to manage financial resources effectively, develop robust budgets, and implement risk mitigation strategies. Participants will gain hands-on experience in financial planning, control mechanisms, donor compliance, and risk assessment to ensure financial sustainability and accountability in their organizations.  

After completing this course successfully, participants will be able to:

• Apply financial management principles
• Develop programmatic budgets tailored to the unique needs of the NGO
• Identify financial risks and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard organizational resources

The duration of this course is 4 days. The course content covers a total of 30 hours including lecturing, case studies, homework, assessments, and other exercises.

Dr. Nicolas Abdo specializes in a wide range of areas, including finance and budgeting, business & management, corporate governance, compliance & risk management, fraud & financial audit, as well as management & leadership. With over 25 years of experience, he combines theoretical expertise with practical insights. Holding a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Business in Accounting from the University of Technology Sydney, he emphasizes active learning and real-world application in his training. His approach equips participants with the necessary tools to navigate dynamic organizational environments effectively.
