Occupational Therapist

Under the direct supervision of the senior PWSN case worker, the occupational therapist will play an essential role in implementing individualized therapy plans that help children build functional skills, adapt to their environments, and achieve developmental milestones. The therapist works closely with families, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure each child receives holistic, coordinated support.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for evaluating and treating children with physical, developmental, sensory, and cognitive disabilities to promote independence in daily living, play, school participation, and social interaction.

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of children's fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and adaptive functioning.
  • Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy plans tailored to each child’s goals and needs.
  • Provide therapy to improve activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, feeding, toileting), handwriting, motor planning, sensory regulation, and attention.
  • Support children with a range of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, ADHD, developmental delays, and sensory integration disorders.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary professionals to integrate therapy goals into daily routines and learning environments.
  • Recommend and train on the use of assistive technology or adaptive equipment when needed.
  • Monitor and document progress through regular evaluations, session notes, and reports; contribute to meetings and other planning discussions.
  • Educate parents and caregivers on home-based activities that reinforce therapy goals.
  • Adapt and modify environments and tasks to enhance a child's participation and inclusion.
  • Maintain compliance with documentation, safety standards, and ethical practices as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions, refer and coordinate with case managers and other specialists.

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): 
  • Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and good command of English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Work experience: 2 years, preferably with NGOs.
  • Ability to work compassionately and effectively with children, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Highly empathic in dealing with beneficiaries, especially children with specific needs.
  • Computer skills: good command of Word and Excel.
  • Excellent knowledge of Protection principles and of PSEA.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening.
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones, sensory integration, and pediatric therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to engage children through play, creativity, and a strengths-based approach.
  1. Education:  Master’s degree in occupational therapy, physical therapy or any related filed.
  2. Experience:  
  • At least 3 years work experience 
  • Previous experience in NGO, and humanitarian field is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with children, preferably those with disabilities.

Working Conditions

- Travel required between service locations in Akkar and North Lebanon.
