PRESENTATION

 

Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an Italian NGO established in 1991. It started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, in the aftermath of the first Gulf war, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in support of the Iraqi civilian population. UPP missions expanded to include other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. UPP aims at preventing armed conflicts, protecting human rights and supporting local civil society, especially in the Middle East, by promoting the nexus between its humanitarian, peacebuilding and development programs. UPP in Lebanon seeks to promote the principles of peace, human rights and solidarity among people and communities.

PROJECT SUMMARY

 

“MADAFEH - Integrated Sustainable Tourism, Local Development and Job Creation in Baalbek and Hermel” is a project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation that will be implemented by ARCS and Un Ponte Per with other local partners. The project aims to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism as a driver of local socio-economic development in the Baalbek and Hermel areas.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Project Coordination and Implementation

 

  • Coordinate day-to-day implementation of UPP activities in Baalbek/Hermel under the Madafeh project.
  • Ensure that project activities are carried out according to the work plan, logframe, and donor requirements.
  • Support the identification and selection of beneficiaries in coordination with project partners.
  • Coordinate with technical experts, trainers, contractors, and service providers to ensure timely and quality execution of activities.

 

  1. Field Monitoring and Reporting

 

  • Conduct regular field visits to ensure progress, verify implementation, and identify challenges.
  • Document project results and gather data for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in coordination with MEAL staff.
  • Draft and submit regular narrative reports, field updates, and activity reports to UPP management.
  • Contribute to success stories and visibility materials in coordination with the Communications team.

 

  1. Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

 

  • Act as UPP’s focal point in the Baalbek/Hermel region for the Madafeh project.
  • Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, cooperatives, tourism actors, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure coordination and good communication with ARCS field staff and other partners.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, focus group discussions, and awareness-raising events.

 

  1. Administrative and Logistical Support

 

  • Provide input on procurement and logistics related to field activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation and archiving of project documents and attendance sheets.
  • Support the coordination of visibility actions and ensure compliance with AICS branding requirements.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Essential

 

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Tourism Development, Development Studies, or relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project coordination or field implementation in development or humanitarian settings.
  • Proven experience working in community-based projects in Lebanon.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and work in multi-cultural settings.
  • Fluency in Arabic and good working knowledge of English (written and spoken).
  • Familiarity with the Baalbek and Hermel region.

 

Desirable

 

  • Previous experience in tourism or cultural heritage development projects.
  • Experience working with Italian or European-funded projects.
  • Familiarity with AICS donor regulations and reporting.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel frequently within the region.
