Psychologist

JOB SUMMARY

The Psychologist will play a pivotal role in training, supervising and supporting Outreach Volunteers (OVs) in delivering community-based
Psychosocial Support Services (PSS) within their respective communities. This position will operate under the UNHCR project in close coordination with relevant stakeholders. The Psychologist will undertake various activities and responsibilities to ensure effective implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) interventions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Selection and assessment

  • Contribute to the selection of OVs based on predefined criteria.
  • Conduct individual assessments of OVs to ascertain capacities, skills, and mental well-being.

Training & Capacity Building 

  • Provide OVs with introductory sessions on MHPSS.
  • Ensure OVs are knowledgeable about and practicing self-care.
  • Conduct group assessments or focus group discussions with OVs to understand challenges, coping mechanisms, and their understanding of MHPSS and self-care.
  • Facilitate wellbeing and self-care activities for OVs.
  • Conduct refresher sessions on safe identification and referral of cases needing mental health services.

Supervision and Coordination 

  • Oversee profiles of individuals handled by OVs implementing group PM+.
  • Monitor the number of individuals each OV should conduct group PM+ sessions with weekly/monthly.
  • Develop supervision flow and referral processes between the psychologist, case manager, OV coordinator, OVs, and supported cases.
  • Attend and contribute to supervision sessions with OVs, preparing for upcoming sessions.

Project Implementation:

  • Follow up with selected OVs on project implementation progress. 
  • Support in training and coaching selected OVs.

Technical Support and Reporting:

  • Provide ongoing technical support and supervision to volunteers and the team. 
  • Coordinate with Case Management (CM) team and other stakeholders on case identification.
  • Ensure timely reporting of implemented activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in clinical psychology or in a related field. 
  • 2-3 years of experience in a related field. 
  • Received Problem Management plus training, experience in PM+ as a trainer. 
  • Experience in providing individual counselling services.
  • Experience in mental health and psychosocial support programs with good reporting skills. 
  • Experience in capacity building, training, and supervision.
  • Analytical and good reporting skills.
  • Strong understanding of community-based approaches to mental health.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills.  
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, capacity buillding, planning, training and supervision. 
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
