Room to Read is a global non-profit organization committed to creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. As part of the Reaching All Children (RAC) initiative in Lebanon, Room to Read is seeking a Local Gender Equality Lead to spearhead the design and piloting of a Peace Building and Life Skills Curriculum for children aged 10–14. This curriculum will integrate gender equality, social cohesion, tolerance, and peace building, drawing on international best practices and tailored to the Lebanese context.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Design & Development:
- Provide technical leadership in the creation of a peace building and life skills curriculum.
- Conduct a desk review of existing local and international materials on life skills, peace building, and gender equality.
- Draft comprehensive student workbooks and a scripted teacher’s guide.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Organize and facilitate technical meetings and validation workshops with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE).
- Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and education sector actors.
Project Collaboration:
Work closely with Room to Read’s technical team and the local project manager at LOST to ensure contextual alignment and integration with broader program goals.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools (e.g., baseline and endline assessments).
- Collect and analyze data during the piloting phase to inform curriculum revisions.
Pilot Implementation:
- Oversee the piloting of the curriculum in a LOST-operated Non-Formal Education (NFE) center.
- Use feedback from pilot implementation to refine and finalize curriculum materials.
Finalization & Approval:
Submit finalized curriculum materials to MEHE for review and approval, targeting a national pilot launch in 2026.
Timeline Overview:
June 2025
- Orientation with Room to Read’s technical lead
- Desk review and start of curriculum drafting
July – September 2025
- Finalize draft curriculum
- Conduct workshops and present materials to NFE teachers
October – November 2025
- Implement pilot in NFE center
- Collect data and refine content
December 2025
- Finalize curriculum based on pilot feedback
- Submit for MEHE approval
Required Qualifications:
- Based in Lebanon and familiar with the national education context
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in gender equality, peace building, or youth life skills programming
- Proven expertise in curriculum development, including experience with national education systems
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with government entities
- Proficiency in both written and spoken Arabic and English
- Experience in developing and utilizing monitoring and evaluation tools
